Position Overview

PBS’ Creative Services team is responsible for producing marketing assets (e.g. video promos, digital ads, social media graphics, print ads) for the promotion of PBS’ Brand, member stations, and General Audience Programming.

The Production and Operations Assistant supports the team by providing general office and production support. Responsibilities include processing invoices, providing production support to a team of Producers, and providing administrative assistance to the Vice President of Creative Services. This is an exciting opportunity to gain a foundation in creative marketing production.

Key Responsibilities Will Include, But Are Not Limited To
• Providing general office support to the Creative Services team, including:
• Working with Accounting and Finance departments to process and reconcile vendor invoices and payments, ensure project codes are accurate, and solve issues that arise
• Coordinating meeting schedules and arranging meeting activities
• Assisting in the on-boarding of vendors and contractors
• Facilitating communications between Creative Services and other PBS departments and external groups
• Providing administrative support to the Vice President, Creative Services as directed, with responsibilities including:
• Arranging meeting logistics and departmental functions
• Preparing materials
• Providing assistance to video/print/digital production team as requested; this may include:
• Assisting in organizing productions
• Importing and updating project information in department’s Project Management system
• Acquiring raw video materials, viewing screeners
• Compressing, resizing and revisioning video/print/digital files
• Uploading/maintaining assets and metadata in PBS Digital Asset Management system
• Completing required paperwork for departmental promo and music libraries
• Researching rights for footage, talent, and music, searching stock footage libraries

Requirements For Success
• A willingness to learn basic video clip editing skills, as needed. Familiarity with editing systems like Final Cut/Premiere/Avid, or design apps InDesign/Photoshop a plus
• 2 years of professional office experience
• Minimum two years college or equivalent preferred
• Educational courses in Film Studies, Visual Communications, Media Management, and/or Advertising preferred
• Experience with project management software Airtable a plus
• Experience and/or interest in film/video/media organization a plus
• Must be a team player
• Must be well-organized, detail-oriented, and consistently reliable
• Computer literacy required: Mac OS, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Slack

Position Overview:

Lead the strategy, development, and implementation of external communications to support PBS's general audience content and provide support for PBS's reputation and executive visibility. The Director reports to the Vice President, General Audience (GA) Publicity and works closely with the General Audience publicity team and the larger Corporate Communications department.

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• Direct PBS General Audience publicity campaigns with oversight of communications strategies, budgets, agency staff resources and final reporting for PBS primetime priority programs.

• Manage relationships with notable on-camera talent and/or producers including any partner agencies, managers, or agents in support of their priority programs.

• Cultivate and maintain strong national media relationships with relevant consumer and trade press. Review media lists for accuracy.

• Work closely with colleagues in PBS programming, marketing, education and digital areas, as well as program producers, outside partner agencies and member station communications staff, to bring together efforts in support of initiatives.

• Draft publicity materials including PR plans, press releases, show descriptions, talking points, bios, event remarks, executive briefing documents, etc.

• Working with PBS marketing team and external agency partners, facilitate the design, creation and final execution of press kits and influencer mailers for priority programs.

• Collaborate with the Corporate Communications team to develop campaigns and narratives that help tell the PBS story and position PBS as a forward-leaning media organization.

• Direct publicity efforts and offer strategic counsel for organizational initiatives and special projects.

• Oversee assistant directors and track their day-to-day workflows, review materials, and provide strategic guidance.

• Produce sessions for PBS's portion of the Television Critics Association Press Tour and support overall Press Tour logistics as needed.

• Working with Director, Event Strategy & Production, assist in the production of media, fan screening and influencer events (both on-site and virtually) for PBS priority programs.

• Monitor and respond to incoming press inquiries via the PR inbox in a timely manner.

• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements for success:

• 8+ years of public relations experience

• Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism or related field

• Experience working in media (TV, Radio or Film)

• Record of direct responsibility for media relations

• Excellent knowledge and awareness of TV, entertainment and digital media industries, including top TV and digital press

• Proven ability to generate media coverage; must be able to develop new relationships with press and be adept at pitching

• Experience working with executives at all levels of the organization, including senior management

• Experience managing external PR agencies or consultants

• Experience managing 1-2 public relations staff

• Experience working and collaborating across internal departments, especially with marketing, creative and social media teams

• Excellent writing, editing and proofing skills and the ability to handle media requests for time sensitive information promptly and efficiently

• Ability to draft media comments with sound judgement and care

• Proven ability to manage multiple, complex projects and priorities simultaneously

• Ability to work well under intense deadline pressure

• Adept at taking initiative/leading projects, anticipating next steps and identifying controversies

• Experience with managing large budgets, including monthly and quarterly reconciliation

• A track record of project management expertise

• Excellent word processing and computer skills

• Knowledge of basic Web-related software packages, including CMS

• Ability to understand PBS's unique local/national model and positioning in the larger media landscape

Austin PBS seeks an experienced audio engineer. This is an audio support role for all of Austin PBS productions and events. Must be able to function in a high-pressure environment and be part of a creative media team. Our award-winning shows include Austin City Limits, Central Texas Gardener, Overheard with Evan Smith, and Decibel, as well as countless special productions and events. Role & Responsibilities:
• Audio Control Boards operation (sound reinforcement and/or recording) in studios and control rooms.
• Set Up and Break down of Band and Event Equipment (stands, microphones, cables, etc).
• Advance audio needs for shows and events when assigned.
• Cabling and patching / working together with the entire crew as a team.
• Set up and operate audio for presentation and/or simultaneous-to-air situations with networked audio consoles, IFB feeds, RF and hardline microphones, RF and hardline IFBs, intercom and PA.
• Embellish, edit, and sweeten audio in post using Adobe Audition and/or Pro Tools and sound effects libraries.
• Ensure proper care and handling of all company and rental audio equipment.
• Ensure Production and Special Event audio needs are met and executed with the utmost professional attitude.

Requirements

Education & Experience:
• 3+ years of experience working in a related field.
• Some networked audio experience required (Dante preferred)
• Pro Tools mixing with Avid S6 control surface experience preferred
• DiGiCo SD5 FOH/Monitor consoles experience preferred
• Calrec Summa broadcast audio consoles experience preferred

Knowledge & Skills:
• Knowledge of television production concepts, principles, methodology, and techniques
• Knowledge of professional audio production and post-production procedures, techniques, and standards in a non-linear production environment
• Creative decision-making skills
• Proficient in Google suite
• Exhibit an understanding of public media mission and values
• Work in an environment with moderate to loud noise levels
• Ability to work non-standard hours (night, weekends) and overtime as necessary
• Ability to lift or carry equipment
• Regularly operate audio and computer equipment
• Regularly interact and exchange information with others, both verbal and written

This is a hybrid position primarily done on-site. Hourly pay rate is $26.50/hr.
