The Division of Rheumatology at the UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and the Department of Pediatrics, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is recruiting a physician-scientist on the tenure track. The ideal candidate would be a rheumatologist with interest in developing a basic, translational, or clinical research program focused on autoimmunity, rheumatologic conditions, or related immune-mediated diseases. It is expected that the candidate chosen will establish an independent, extramurally funded research program and actively participate in the educational and clinical missions of the School of Medicine.
The position includes a competitive salary, laboratory space, and generous start-up funding.
The Division of Rheumatology at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is a leading clinical and research enterprise in rheumatology and is among the most distinguished pediatric rheumatology units in the nation. The research mission within the Division is supported by state-of-the-art research infrastructure and comprehensive core facilities. The Associate Director, Industry Partnerships identifies, develops and executes mutually beneficial industry research partnerships that advance important science, solve industry-relevant R&D challenges, and provide channels for the commercialization of new technologies of high value and societal impact. The... Associate Director will work at the intersection of Pitt's research enterprise and the life sciences industry, cultivating industry sponsored research opportunities, technology licensing opportunities, and other research partnerships. The Associate Director will utilize their knowledge of the life sciences industry to build a portfolio of strategic corporate partners, acting as an Alliance Manager for key partnerships. The Associate Director will work closely with faculty, licensing managers, contract officers, and research administrators to move research programs from concept through execution, in a collaborative, client-oriented manner.
Key responsibilities include: work with Pitt faculty to understand research interests and develop strategies for positioning their research for partnering. Identify and cultivate relationships with prospective industry partners, understanding their research interests. Matching the interests of industry partners with faculty across Pitt and drive the creation of sponsored research programs. Acting as an Alliance Manager for strategic partnerships with an aim at growing these relationships. Drive business development activities that facilitate licensing of university technologies. Drive the positioning of Pitt's research in key areas with industry, elevating awareness of Pitt's research strengths and avenues for collaboration.
Required qualifications: 5+ years relevant experience in a business development, external innovation, research commercialization, or partnership management role. Master's degree and/or related experience in the life sciences that facilitates understanding of advanced scientific concepts. Working knowledge of the life sciences industry, including research and investment trends. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with proven ability to bridge academic and industry cultures. Marketing/business development acumen. Demonstrable customer service experience sufficient to operate independently with both internal and external clients.

Faculty Position Opening:
The Department of Pharmacology and Chemical Biology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine invites applicants for a tenure-track faculty position at the Associate Professor level. Outstanding scientists with research expertise broadly related to cardiovascular pharmacology and chemical biology are highly encouraged to apply. Ideal candidates would expand current Department programs including GPCR signaling, signal transduction, structural biology, ion channel biology, neuropharmacology, and cancer pharmacology. Outstanding opportunities exist for collaboration with both basic and physician-scientists, a broad array of departments, as well as those having joint appointments in the Vascular Medicine Institute, Brain Institute, Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases, and the Hillman Cancer Institute. Applicants should be highly collaborative and envision integrating with allied researchers and physician-scientist teams in basic and clinical departments. Applicants will be expected to seek and maintain a high level of extramural support, participate in the teaching of medical and graduate students, and mentor both graduate students and Ph.D. or MD postdoctoral fellows.
Successful candidates will join a vibrant, diverse, and collaborative Top 10 department based in a Top 3 NIH-funded University that provides excellent opportunities for continuing career development, as well as excellent laboratory space, core facilities, and startup support. A Ph.D. in Pharmacology or a related discipline (i.e. biochemistry, physiology, pathology, etc.) and/or an M.D. degree is required. Additionally, an established track record of extramural funding, excellence in research productivity, and a national reputation in their field of interest are required.
