You will be part of the strategy department, but work closely with both product and marketing. Platform.sh is a cloud provider that uses other IaaS providers to render its services. Part of what we do is to make developers more... productive; Another, very important aspect is that we can optimize the workloads. Our effects can be huge. Which is dear to us because we adamantly believe climate change is real, it is happening, and that the time to act was a couple of decades ago. We already have a measurable, audited, impact on the reduction of carbon emissions of our users but our ambitions are much greater. This is a core tenant of the company. And because we are a cloud provider at scale it means our impact can be considerable. Your role will be to align internal teams around environmental impact as a major theme and make sure it is front and center with immediate effects and that we are able to deploy meaningful actions in the short term. In a given day you might:
Set priorities for our carbon emission reduction initiatives and make sure we can roll-out both product and marketing actions with urgency Collaborate transversely:

//platform.sh is looking for a Cloud Software Engineer... with an interest in Python or Go, good understanding of Linux systems, and an ability to embrace the challenges of building robust, distributed systems. There are many interesting challenges at Platform.sh that could use your attention:
Our project backend allows customers to update their application with a Git push, or spin up a development environment in one step. We're steadily adding more features to it. We maintain a wide selection of LXC, VM (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, OpenStack), and Docker images using concise, declarative manifests. We have a high container density in our industry, and we're aiming to get it higher. We've been working hard on a fast, resilient, and cost-optimized observability framework to make system behavior transparent to us and our customers. We support customer applications that use many different programming languages, including Python, Ruby, NodeJS, PHP, Java, Elixir, and .NET. We want to explore many other areas, including auto-healing on high-availability clusters, the performance of our multi-protocol ssh proxy, improvements to our block storage layer built on Ceph, new features on the edge layer, and the great ideas you'll bring with you when you join. Skills & requirements:
Required:
A curiosity about all things computer related, with a broad understanding of operating systems, system administration, networking, distributed systems, and version control, or strong expertise in one or more of those areas. Proficiency in Python or Go. We also love other languages, so if you're interested in working with Python and Go and have expertise in a couple of other languages, we'd still like to hear from you. Nice to Have:
Strong knowledge of Git usage or internals Networking background (routing/protocols) Knowledge of practical security and cryptography Experience with C / C+
(we contribute to a bunch of upstream projects, like LXC) is a plus; love of C or C+
not required Experience with other programming languages (e.g. Rust, Haskell, Java, Javascript, Ruby, Common Lisp, PHP) Good knowledge of how the Web works (hacking Nginx with Lua a plus). You may want to brush up on HTTP before the interview. Good understanding of how database systems and search engines work A good notion of distributed systems (consensus protocols like Raft/Paxos, eventual consistency models, gossip protocols) Experience with Debian packaging or system administration If you're preparing for the technical interview, it might be helpful to know that this role involves more systems engineering than application development. So knowing about system calls is more important than, say, knowing Django. If you don't have all the required skills:
we're also looking for potential. We understand the importance of an active mind, and no one skill is more important to us than finding a good overall fit. About Platform.sh Platform.sh is an idea-to-cloud application platform that simplifies cloud infrastructures. We give developers the tools they need to experiment, innovate, get rapid feedback and deliver better-quality features with speed and confidence thanks to our unique rapid cloning technology. We want people who are passionate, open, multicultural, friendly, humble and smart to join us and help this fast-growing, award-winning company to revolutionize the tech industry.

In its domain, Platform.sh is probably one of the most disruptive European players. We do the cloud differently. And while we are a global player we want to keep our French and European roots. Part of this, and an important part is working with the Public sphere. While the job is very much centered around program management it is a true innovation management one. While you are not expected to be an engineer - having a great understanding of current cloud technology trends will be very beneficial - you will work as much with the executive leadership as you will with our R&D teams. Your role will be to identify and to develop opportunities within the public sector, maintaining close relationships with the identified... actors and aligning internal teams around our structuring R&D themes. In a given day you might:
Identify opportunities in the public financing realm, from grant programs to tax credits, and eventually public procurement Continuously curate and monitor this pipeline with the help of the sales, product and engineering teams Organize the project management of the ongoing initiatives, as to anticipate the very formal reporting and delivery planning required by those programs, with the finance team Organize the internal communication regarding our ongoing initiatives and work with the marketing team to organize the external communication Maintain fluent communications with public bodies such as the French Tech, French ministries and European Commission bodies (gaia-x for instance) to ensure our participation What you need to be successful:
5 years of experience Specific experience with the French public ecosystem Good knowledge of public financing rules both in France and in Europe Professional French & English language capacity (verbal and written) A strong appetite for network building A preference for timeliness and tidiness over organic creativity A good balance, standing between orthogonal expectations from sales to marketing and product What's in it for you:
A unique chance to deepen your public affairs knowledge within both political and innovation ecosystems Be part of a company that cares deeply about the environment and that has strong values (and actions) towards inclusivity Sound Like a Good Fit? We'd love to talk to you!
