To help us reach our goals and keep us moving forward, we need a data engineer who knows how to build the pipe end to end--from requirements collection to post-rollout support and QA. Who we're looking for A collaborative self-starter, with a keen attention to detail You know the tools of the trade. You have a solid understanding of data warehousing tools and technology like Snowflake and AWS, as well as ETL tools like FiveTran and dbt. You're experienced with reporting tools such as Tableau, and you can manipulate and analyze data in SQL and Python like a pro. Familiarity with other tools like Heap, Google Analytics, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, and Zendesk are a plus too. You're self-motivated. Once you are confident in what you need to do, you can run with it and don't need a lot of direction. You have strong self-structure and discipline and have worked remotely either currently or in the past so you know the benefits and the challenges. At the same time, you don't silo yourself, and are always eager to learn more and share with the team. You like variety. Not only will you be handling all kinds of systems, apps, and technologies -- like the tools mentioned above--but you'll need to help with execution, QA, and other aspects of our database management. You relish new challenges and get excited by the prospect of wearing multiple hats. You're flexible. You have the ability to prioritize and re-prioritize your work in a changing environment. You understand that things change as new information is made available, and can flip from one project to another at the drop of a hat when your attention is needed. You're a stickler for the details. You are careful, cautious and incredibly meticulous. Some may even call you nitpicky (in an endearing way, of course). You can spot the smallest mistake before it throws a database off course. Nothing slips by the net when you're the goalie. You work well with others. We are actively seeking a Researcher who will take a leading role in developing, testing, and implementing machine learning models in the nutrition domain. This position is located at the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY.
Work Description
Work is on-site, yet also eligible for full-time telework. Tasks include but are not limited to those identified in the work description:
• Conduct research as directed by USMA to produce machine learning models, code scripts, demonstration products, papers, white papers, and technical reports as required.
• Execute sound judgment, discretion, and a substantial body of knowledge to contribute to collaborative research within their specialty with USMA and external researchers.
• Review research products for correctness and clarity and integrate additional content as necessary.
• Participate in meetings, program reviews, collaboration sessions, etc.
Reporting Requirements
• Oral reports as required by the USMA supervising director.
• Written activity reports summarizing the work performed and results obtained shall be submitted to the COR when requested.
• An annual report summarizing the work performed. The results obtained shall be submitted to the COR within 30 days after the end of each 12-month period.
• Activity reports shall be submitted to the USMA supervising director for each trip taken.
Required Qualifications:
• Must minimally have an MS degree in data science, statistics, operations research, applied mathematics, artificial intelligence, computer science, decision science, information systems and technology, industrial and systems engineering, electrical engineering, computational science and engineering, or a related field.
• Proficiency in programming languages (Python and R at a minimum) along with modern software development practices, tools, and technologies.
• Possess knowledge of computer and network security principles.
• Be articulate, adaptable, and able to work with a variety of researchers and professionals in academia, government, and industry.
• Must be able to work with diverse teams and provide quality input and recommendations aimed at ensuring good program success.
• Must possess the ability to:
• Communicate equally well to lay audience and experts in the field, both written and orally.
