Overview...

The Caregiver is responsible for the implementation of resident care by assisting in the activities of daily living, activities, programs, housekeeping and laundry services. The provision of these services must be performed to ensure the health, welfare, safety and independence of our residents as the primary concern. PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE IS PREFERRED.
Responsibilities:
• Assist residents with; activities of daily living, including but not limited to bathing, dressing and grooming, transfers, ambulation, which may include wheelchair mobility
• Encourage the residents to take an active part in the planned activities.
• Participate in set up of dining room as directed, serve meals to residents, and assist residents during meal time as needed.
• Provide laundry services as directed or as needed by a resident.
• Clean a resident's room on a weekly basis by vacuuming carpets, sweeping and washing tile floors, sanitizing as necessary.
• Practice safety procedures and comply with the established reporting of incidents, accidents and injuries to associates or residents
• Complete all training and orientation requirements and attend all in-service training as outlined by State regulations and policies and procedures.
• Report all changes in resident's status immediately to the charge nurse
• Maintain local and state certification, if applicable
• Comply with company policies and procedures
• Clock in and out on their time card, no sooner than six (6) minutes before or after their scheduled shift.
• Follow the instructions and supervision of their shift supervisor and will follow the chain of command when solving problems.
• Call in appropriately to allow their shift to be filled if the need arises. Must call them self unless physically unable to do so and must call in two (2) hours before the shift is to start.
• Follow resident's rights
• REPORT ANY OTHER EMPLOYEE THAT IS NOT DOING THEIR JOB OR THAT IS BEING ABUSIVE TOWARD A RESDIENT OR STEALING FROM A RESIDENT OR ANYTHING THAT IS AGAINST THE WORK ETHIC OF REGENCY RETIREMENT VILLAGE.
• Understands this is an AWAKE facility and that they are required on the night shift to be awake and alert at all times for the safety of the resident and the facility.
• Understands that to refuse to do an assigned task will result in termination.
• May be asked to stay extra time or to stay overnight in the facility in winter months if the need arises to help care the for residents in the event of disasters.
• Will be expected to respond to an emergency call in the event of a disaster, fire or evacuation of the facility.

Physical:
• Requires frequent sitting, standing, bending, reaching, stooping, twisting, pushing, and walking.
• Must be able to lift at least fifty (50) pounds.
• Must be able to operate standard housekeeping equipment such as vacuums, mops, etc.

Mental:
• Must be alert and attentive to detail.
• Able to read, write and follow written instructions.
• Able to make positive decisions and show good judgment
• Must present a neat, clean, and professional appearance and demonstrate a positive and cheerful attitude towards other associates and residents and their families

Environment:
• Must understand that they are subject to exposure to hazardous chemicals and infectious substances.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Complete routine housekeeping duties including but not limited to the following: emptying trash, dust and vacuum, mopping, sweeping, restocking and cleaning bathrooms
• Staff the reception desk during assigned period
• Graciously greets all residents and visitors and politely assists them as necessary
• Maintains detailed Resident and guest Register, daily communication log entry, and completes daily checklist log
• Maintain a clean and safe workspace, community entrance, lobby, and hydration station
• Promptly answers telephone, directing incoming communications to appropriate person
• Monitors fax machine, directing incoming communications to appropriate person
• Performs frequent security checks to ensure safety of the Community and its residents
• Monitors and responds to resident call and exit alarm systems and handles emergency procedures immediately. Contacts 911 if necessary and notifies management and families if a resident requires assistance
• Maintains inventory control system for all office supplies and notifies manager of any needed supplies; orders such supplies as directed by Assistant Manager
• Performs simple, routine maintenance of office equipment
• Perform coffee service at dinnertime, if needed
• Assist the kitchen staff with shutting down kitchen after mealtime by closing and locking the doors and windows and turning off the lights
• Print and fold the weekly menu and monthly calendar and fold dining napkins
• Performs housekeeping functions in common area by vacuuming and spot cleaning carpets; removing cobwebs from ceilings and walls; and dusting furniture, shelves, light fixtures, and other surfaces
• Perform simple maintenance duties as needed for residents such as unclogging toilets, turning off water to leaking faucets, mopping up overflowing sinks or toilets, and delivering toilet paper

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Must be 18 years of age
• Meet state related requirements (if applicable to position)

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Experience in computer use and relevant software applications are preferred
• Experience with or the ability to use multi-line telephone system
