Public Safety Officer II-level positions to join its Public Safety
Department, which works in partnership with the Brown University
and Providence Police departments to maintain a safe campus
environment and support the educational mission of the College.
This position is a valuable member of the RISD community and is
responsible for maintaining and ensuring the safety and security of
students, faculty, and staff along with College-owned or used
properties through effective emergency medical and incident
response, comprehensive building and campus property security,
parking enforcement, shuttle and escort service.

Essential Functions:
• Develop a thorough knowledge of all campus security posts as
well as all campus properties and geography and effectively and
efficiently conduct foot, fixed and mobile security patrols of all
campus property, utilizing assigned systems, gear and protocols, to
deter and detect unsafe or criminal activity, identify and detain
individuals as appropriate, and provide community education.
• Respond to medical emergencies and provide emergency medical
care as required. Employ appropriate techniques as trained to deal
with members of the community and public in mental distress and/or
under the influence of alcohol and/or narcotic substances.
• Independently and/or collaboratively with other officers and
Public Safety staff, proactively respond to calls for service
including but not limited to lock-outs, fire, mechanical and/or
burglar alarms, alcohol violations, student code violations,
escorts, parking violations, defacement/vandalism complaints, motor
vehicle accidents, noise disturbances, trespassing violations,
injury reports etc.
• Conduct initial incident investigations, gathering information
by interviewing and obtaining statements from witnesses, victims,
and suspects, securing physical evidence and filing detailed
reports using a computerized report system while maintaining
appropriate confidentiality.
• Perform periodic inspections of systems and facilities such as
call boxes, alarms or street lights to ensure proper function and
prevent failure.
• Work assignments in the Dispatch center and/or fixed security
posts within a residential building utilizing camera system
surveillance.
• Effectively operate and maintain all assigned equipment
including, but not limited to; radios, uniforms, computers,
vehicles, medical supplies.
• Actively participate in college events designed to foster the
relationship between the Department and members of the RISD
community.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Experience:
• Must pass a pre-employment background check, physical and
psychological examinations, insurance and driver’s record check,
and National Crime Records check and must be fingerprinted.
• The incumbent is required to become a State of RI licensed EMT
and to complete the RI College & University Public Safety
Training Academy (or equivalent training as determined by the
Director) within two years of the date of hire as a condition of
continued employment.
• Must complete Field Training and Evaluation Program to include
training in CPR/First Aid, safe driving practices, OC spray,
defensive tactics, expandable batons and handcuffing procedures
within timeframe as approved by the Director.
• Ability to function independently, with moderate supervision,
completing assigned work in a timely manner is required, as is the
ability to prioritize based on emerging circumstances and changing
priorities.
• Must work well under stressful conditions.
• Possession and continuous maintenance of a valid driver’s
license and safe driving record in accordance with RISD standards
required.
• Must possess strong human relations skills with a proven
ability to interact with community members from diverse
backgrounds.
• Must be able to provide clear and professional verbal
communication via radio and telephone to responding emergency
agencies, and other officers.
• Must be able to maintain a professional demeanor and appearance
in uniform, directly engaging with members of the RISD community,
Providence Police and Fire Departments, other college campus public
safety departments, visitors, vendors, and the general
public.
• A High School Diploma, GED or equivalent combination of
education and experience is required.
• Minimum of one (1) to two (2) years of security employment,
formal security training, or related experience is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
• EMT Certification and two (2) years of EMT experience is
preferred, but not required at time of hire.

by phone and in-person for RISD community members reporting
emergencies, security issues, large scale incidents, illness or
injury.
The Dispatcher will assess, prioritize and dispatch emergency
responders, retrieving and relaying information in real time as
needed. They will accurately document information for reports,
records and daily logs, and greet and perform receptionist duties
for walk-in community members at the Dispatch Center. They will
also provide emergency communications with police, fire and EMS as
needed, and monitor life, safety and access systems, and cameras.
The Dispatcher is a resource for RISD community members, providing
information and problem solving as issues arise.

• Receives, screens, and takes appropriate action on all

• Dispatch, monitor and receive emergency and non-emergency calls

and relays broadcasts and communicates orders as assigned, ensuring
receipt.
• Enters emergency assistance call information into the
computer-aided dispatch (CAD system); determines location of call;
inputs, modifies, confirms and validates information into the
system; enters data for reports, records, and daily logs, processes
forms and record files; queries system databases as requested;
maintains records and files in accordance with established
standards.
• Greets and performs receptionist duties for walk-in community
members at the Dispatch Center, providing information, directions,
other resources and answering questions. Serves as first point of
contact for those requesting public safety services.
• Using camera systems, monitor, retrieve information and report
to responding officers in real time for emergency or non-emergency
incidents and investigations.
• Using access control systems, monitor, control access, retrieve
information and report to responding officers in emergency or
non-emergency situations. Provides card system update services and
information.
• Monitor life safety alarm systems, and emergency blue phone
kiosks dispatching officers for response as needed while ensuring
accurate and timely reporting, communicating with police, fire and
EMS departments response, updating as needed.
• Provide dispatch services for RISDRides and other non-emergency
transports, providing information, verification, problem solving
with outside vendor and/or employees and faculty and students as
needed. Maintains logs and reporting of rides as requested.
• Responsible for inventory of vehicle and room keys, key cards.
Ensuring community members are properly identified before issuing
items. Logs, tracks and reports use of keys and vehicles.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Experience:
• Related security and dispatch work experience is preferred, but
not required.
• Ability to respond to situations of varying intensity swiftly
and with good judgment.
• Ability to quickly assess, prioritize and re-prioritize
concurrent requests. Ability to multi-task in addressing multiple
requests simultaneously.

The Administrative Assistant performs a wide variety of administrative functions to support the Chief Marketing & Communications Officer (CMCO) and helps ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the Marketing & Communications department. The person in this position serves as the department’s central point of contact, coordinator, and liaison and interacts with all levels of the RISD community as well as external parties concerning activities of the department. This position manages the CMCO’s dynamic calendar and tracks and reports on the department’s budget and completes projects relevant to department initiatives and priorities as assigned by the CMCO. The Administrative Assistant also works with confidential information, acts as a trusted team member to the CMCO and the entire Marketing & Communications department. Essential Functions
• Serves as the first point of contact for the CMCO’s office and as a liaison between the CMCO and internal and external constituents. Makes travel arrangements and helps the CMCO prepare for trips. Schedules complex meetings for team leaders at the CMCO’s request.
• Ensures the smooth functioning of daily office operations and helps the CMCO foster a positive team culture. Serves as a resource for team members, providing information and assistance regarding department policies, practices, and processes. Tasks include, but are not limited to: ordering office supplies; organizing team celebrations and gatherings including coordinating catering logistics; contacting Facilities for work orders; keeping printers and copiers running smoothly and arranging service calls when needed; submitting requests to ITS Helpdesk when needed; organizing and taking care of shared office spaces; and coordinating conference calls with remote participants.
• Monitors the Marketing & Communications budget and provides the CMCO and team leaders the information they need to ensure the team operates within its budget. Processes payments and invoices and manages credit card charges for team leaders, ensuring all charges are coded properly. Maintains record systems, including tracking all contracts between Marketing & Communications and external partners. Prepares digestible monthly budget reports for CMCO’s review.
• As assigned by the CMCO, supports the Public Relations, Creative, and Digital Experience teams within Marketing & Communications by completing project tasks including but not limited to assisting with media monitoring and maintaining the accuracy of digital content.
