Job Description: Mentoring and Tutoring Programs Coordinator

We bring together committed partners to foster a stronger Red Wing — working with government agencies, schools, businesses, individual community members, and parents and youth to identify challenges facing our youth and devise solutions collectively.

Reports to: Program Manager- Jenna Collins

Pay Range: $17.32-$24.49/ hour based on education and experience.

Summary: This role organizes and coordinates the Mentoring and Tutoring Program, develops activities to meet program goals, and supports program evaluation. The bulk of program delivery takes place afterschool hours, onsite at Twin Bluff Middle School.

Key Responsibilities:

Programing:
• Develop and coordinate both the Mentoring and Tutoring Programs in collaboration with the schools, program committee, co-workers, community partners, and Executive Director by attending staff, committee, and assigned partner meetings, researching best and promising practices in the field, and learning about community gaps and needs
• Be knowledgeable of all the grant requirements of both the Mentoring and Tutoring Programs
• Create and teach a social and emotional skills development curriculum for students
• Collaborate with community partners to bring in powerful learning opportunities that align with student’s cultural learning needs
• Create and teach, or ensure mentors and tutors have training on academic support, social skills development, and emotional management skills development

Delivery:
• Work with the schools, Mentoring Program Coordinators, Program Manager, and Executive Director to ensure all Mentoring and Tutoring Program outcomes align with the school’s, agency’s and program’s goals
• Keep parents informed about program goals and updates; keep in touch with parents about mentee’s progress and behavior
• Work directly with the Parent Engagement Coordinator to ensure family support exists
• Organize and coordinate all mentoring and tutoring activities; assist with arrangements, transportation, and chaperoning youth
• Ensure the youth are completing education related milestones

Administrative:
• Recruit mentors and tutors, manage communication with mentors and tutors, and organize participation of all mentors and tutors
• Complete accurate case documentation including contact case notes, conduct all required assessments for youth, gather and enter accurate intake and outcomes data into reporting systems, track youth documents in assigned files and ensure files are complete
• Participate in fundraising development and events by coordinating youth participation
• Must complete 40 hrs of paid professional development training per calendar year
• Other duties as assigned and necessary to ensure continued success of all Red Wing Youth Outreach programs

Preferred Education and Experience
• Bilingual Spanish/English language skills
• Life experience as an underrepresented parent working to support student education services
• Life experience during adolescents as a youth that used intervention services
• Experience working with families or students that are underserved/underrepresented
• Leadership, coaching, community organizing, or group facilitation experience
• A Bachelor’s Degree from a human services field
• Experience working in educational settings

Position Description: This role is responsible for coordinating the Red Wing Youth Partnership’s (RWYP) birth to career collective impact initiative.

The Red Wing Youth Partnership is a locally controlled, data-driven, public-private partnership of community agencies, parents, and youth working together to identify systems of inequity and break down barriers for youth success, from cradle to career. Together, we advance equity by learning together, aligning, and integrating our actions to achieve population and systems-level change.

Our Mission: Collectively impacting social injustice to improve lives. (We define “Social Justice” as justice in terms of the distribution of wealth, opportunities, and privileges within a society.)

This position operates as part of a team of agency and community members. This is a grant-funded position. This is a position that requires in-person community and office-based services.

● Develop, cultivate, and maintain relationships with cross-sector community partners, including families

Duties:
● Convene and facilitate the RWYP Leadership Team meetings by setting meeting times, inviting partners, developing agendas, synthesizing meeting themes, and communicating with partners

● Be knowledgeable of all the grant requirements of the Red Wing Youth Partnership
● Examine data and use data to drive direction and results with the RWYP Leadership Team, including supporting the analysis, management, integration, and reporting of the data for the agency and the partnership

● Work with the Executive Director, the RWYP Leadership Team, and the RWYO Marketing
Committee to create and support the cohesive internal and external communications needed across the agency

● Participate in fundraising development and events
● Engage diverse communities and constituencies in supporting youth success
● Manage conflict, mediate, and maintain effective working relationships with community partners
● Use processes, tools, and techniques to engage communities to solicit input and build community leadership capacity
● Be knowledgeable and provide needed administrative support of strategic goals for each network with network members
● Help organize, set priorities, and coordinate activities among partners
● Incorporate a continuous improvement process within the leadership team meetings and network meetings to drive continued strategic results and increase efficiency
● Provide oversight for volunteers as needed
● Attend all StriveTogether and Education Partnership Coalition Meetings as assigned
● Effectively interact, communicate, and collaborate with people from cultural backgrounds other than your own

Duties and Responsibilities
• Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, goal-oriented environment without sacrificing quality of service provided to our members
• Create a motivational and fun environment for all participants
• Arrive 15 minutes ahead or more of class start time to set up and check in members, answer questions, and introduce and orient first time participants
• Introduce yourself and accurately explain the workout and format to the class
• Make sure all verbal instructions are clear and that the volume, tempo of music, and overall atmosphere is conducive to a fun and engaging class
• Continually monitor participants to ensure all participants are using correct form (including demonstrating exercises) and when necessary offer variations to accommodate ability and fitness levels

Preferred Qualifications and Requirements
• A minimum of 6 months experience in taking group exercise activities is recommended
• Prior experience in group fitness and or personal training is preferred
• Current nationally recognized group fitness certification or specialty class certificate is a plus
• Knowledge of safe exercise techniques and principles
• Must be outgoing, energetic, and able to “perform” in front of an audience
• Provide exceptional customer service to help build a loyal client base
• Ability to communicate and deal with a diverse array of individuals
