Specific programs and courses are designed to increase useful job knowledge, functional skills and practical workplace methods that directly translate into improved employee performance. Programs or courses that meets the criteria of helping students in their general professional development, career advancement or preparation for state and national certificate exams would qualify to be offered through CCE. Courses do not earn credit toward college degrees and are not transferable.

Job Summary:
Provide personal and academic coaching for current Rock Valley College students identified as participants of the SSS (Disabled) or SSS (Regular) grants. Provide structured academic and personal support to increase persistence, retention, and completion for program participants. These grants serve a variety of students from low-income backgrounds, first-generation backgrounds, and/or students with disabilities or special needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Related duties may be assigned.
• General Duties:
• Attend and participate in job-related training, workshops, and conferences
• Establish and maintain relationships with college staff and departments
• Maintain regular attendance
• Use tact and courtesy to establish and maintain effective relationships with ALL persons contacted in the course of work
• Advising Duties:
• Advise/Counsel TRIO participants
• Assist participants with scheduling of classes
• Assist in development of participant Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in partnership with Disability Support Services to meet participant academic needs
• Complete Semester Check-off lists for all assigned participants prior to each semester
• Familiarize students with community resources for personal and academic development
• Maintain a caseload of project participants and provide them with services and activities as indicated on their individual service plans
• Perform recruitment presentations.
• Provide academic advising and make referrals to students for Academic and Transfer Advising, Career Advising, Personal Counseling, and/or financial literacy, and/or Disability Support Services, etc.
• Provide career, financial, and college selection counseling
• Provide referrals and resources for participants that have personal issues or needs
• Work with students and Disability Support Services to establish appropriate course accommodations based on documented needs
• Work with students, Disability Support Services, and RVC faculty to ensure that appropriate course accommodations are being implemented as appropriate
• Effectively "coach" participants, specifically with goal setting, time management, self-advocacy, and study skills

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited institution is required.
• Master's degree in Academic Advising, College Student Personnel, Counseling, Education, Psychology, Sociology, or Social Work required
• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse students, faculty, and staff is required
• Experience relating to and/or working with low-income and underrepresented student populations strongly preferred
• Experience working with TRIO programs and/or in a social service, educational, preventative setting strongly preferred
• Experience in the development of educational collegiate curricula a plus
• Bi-lingual proficiency (Spanish) highly desirable
Full-time Positions: (ADL, ADM, PSA, ESP)
