This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in learning more about working in an international NGO or a nonprofit. Our interns get the opportunity to experience all aspects of our work and will have some flexibility to... tailor their activities to match their background or the practical experience they hope to gain. These activities may include but are not limited to:

Communications
• Helping draft op-eds, press releases and social media posts
• Monitoring current events daily
• Maintaining a press list
• Pitching stories and maintaining relationships with reporters
• Planning and attending press freedom-related events

Advocacy
• Joining advocacy meetings with Capitol Hill, federal officials, and other NGO partners
• Researching legislation, court cases, and global press freedom movements
• Helping identify potential partners in government and learning how to build coalitions
• Monitoring congressional hearings

Development
• Researching prospective donors and foundations
• Managing the contacts database
• Drafting monthly newsletters to donors and supporters

The intern will be based out of the Washington, DC office. We are currently a hybrid office that goes into the office in person 1-2 times per week. We will consider applications for both full-time and part-time interns for the 2023 summer term. Interns are entitled to a monthly stipend of $600 for part time work and $1,000 for full time.

Qualifications:
• Excellent writing skills
• Detail-oriented and proactive
• In college or a recent graduate
• Interested in press freedom, international human rights, and/or mission-driven nonprofits
• Media literate and an avid news consumer
• French language skills not required, but a plus

Reporters Without Borders/Reporters sans frontières (RSF) is the world’s leading nongovernmental organization working to defend everyone’s right to information. RSF USA is its Washington-based office overseeing North America and a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. RSF USA is seeking a Development Manager who will help develop and implement a strategy to strengthen Reporters Without Borders’ fundraising portfolio, especially by growing its base of major and institutional donors. This position will report to the Executive Director of the DC bureau and work alongside a larger development team based in Paris, France. Development Manager main responsibilities: * Oversee all fundraising activities under the direction of the Executive Director * Identify, contact, and cultivate new major donors and foundations * Implement a fundraising strategy to grow the annual fund from major donors and raise both general and project support from institutional funders * Manage all grant writing and reporting * Develop in-person fundraising events * Manage both online and offline solicitations in coordination with the Executive Director, and marketing team in Paris * Monitor incoming donations and ensure proper stewardship of each gift, including receipt issuance, acknowledgement, and cultivation * Maintain accurate and complete fundraising records * Prepare documents for accountants to assist with post-award reporting, annual audit, and monthly financial reporting * Possibility of some international and domestic travel The ideal applicant will possess: * A minimum of three years fundraising experience * A proven record of success identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding high-net worth individuals and institutional funders * Knowledge of segmenting online donors and members to better target requests through Salesforce or other database * Grant writing experience * Some experience with fundraising events * Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal * High level of organization and attention to detail * Ability to plan and implement projects on a pre-established timeline and deliver results * Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision at times * Comfort working with an international and multicultural team * Strong knowledge of Microsoft Suite, including Microsoft Excel, and Google Suite * Knowledge of Mailchimp and/or Salesforce desired * Demonstrated interest in human rights, press freedom, and the right to information * French language skills are a big plus, but not required This is a hybrid role based in Washington, DC with some flexibility for remote work. Compensation is competitive with salary beginning at $70,000.
