This Assistant Director will identify and provide teaching staff with the opportunities for further training and professional development in both pedagogy and industry-related subject matter.
Qualifications:
The Assistant Director must possess and maintain appropriate State of Maine certification. (Building Administrator -040, Assistant Building Administrator -045,Assistant Superintendent-015, Superintendent-010) A practical knowledge of industrial, technical, and business operations, together with first-hand knowledge of career and technical education (CTE) and CTE standards is highly desirable and preferred.
• OSHA certification or working towards preferred.
• Preference will be given to individuals with previous administrative or career and technical experience and familiarity with current research based teaching/learning strategies.
• Excellent people and communication skills.
• Ability to work in a team environment offering problem-solving strategies, as well as taking direction from others.
• Ability to use technology to develop and maintain appropriate documentation of student records, etc.
Performance Responsibilities:
• Assists the Director in providing leadership for strategic planning and direction in the development and implementation of high quality and comprehensive career and technical education programs. Assists the Director in monitoring and supporting the evaluation of current programs.
• Develop and monitor risk management protocol in CTE programs.
• Develop ideas and support a marketing plan including materials, both printed and electronic, that highlight the programs and services available to prospective students, parents, and community members at FCTEC. The AD will be responsible for supporting and maintaining up-to-date materials on the school's social media sites and websites.
• Develop and review with the Director, on an annual basis, a student handbook and registration materials that are consistent with State established guidelines and regulations.
• Organize and manage a student record-keeping system that complements regular cumulative records kept in area schools and provides administrative and FCTEC professional staff with current and accurate information on their students to include academic achievement, FCTEC course completion, student discipline and referral, student assessments, and other relevant information.
• Develop, in collaboration with sending school guidance staff and student services coordinator, a recruitment and admissions process.
• Serve as a liaison between sending schools and FCTEC staff to ensure that all student records are forwarded to FCTEC staff in a timely manner, to include I.E.P. information, student assessment and achievement data, transcripts, health alerts, and other relevant student information. The AD will maintain and ensure confidentiality of such records.
• Work collaboratively with the curriculum coordinator(s) and other professional FCTEC/RSU9/Partner School staff to develop and maintain course descriptions that describe entrance requirements, program competencies, student expectations, and opportunities for further study or employment for each program area.
• Assist the Director with the completion of teacher evaluations.
• Assist the Director with the completion of federal, state, and local grants.
• Provide assistance in resolving scheduling and credit attainment issues by working collaboratively with the student, the student’s home school counselor, school administration and instructional staff. The intent is not to provide in-depth counseling, but to work in a coordinated effort with the student’s home school counselor and/or administration in a manner that extends and complements the function of the home school counselor.
• Establish and maintain liaison with Program Advisory Committee (PAC) members and with local business and industry groups and organizations that have the potential to provide career and occupational information and current and projected employment needs and opportunities.
• Encourage, support, and oversee, with assistance from Pre Apprenticeship/Apprenticeship coordinators, staff, Maine Department of Labor, and PAC members, a student mentoring/placement program that provides an opportunity for students to gain practical work experience through employment with local business and industry, including post-secondary training and job opportunities.
• Assist professional staff with corrective action regarding student issues, including communication with parents and sending school administrators.
• Oversee student activities and student organizations.
• Serve as member of the Administrative Team.
