Job Description

Financial Aid and Scholarships at Texas State University seeks a financial aid professional to work on the office’s Grants & Special Programs team.

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships, the Financial Aid Program Specialist is responsible for awarding financial aid and/or scholarships, managing specific financial aid or scholarship programs (including writing and maintaining procedures), exercising professional judgment relative to special circumstances, and occasionally counseling students.

Job Duties

The Program Specialist will work to ensure the effective management of federal, state and institutional financial aid and scholarship programs, determine student eligibility by reviewing exception lists, award students according to university packaging parameters, and exercise professional judgment regarding financial and other documents related to mitigating circumstances. This position is also tasked with keeping abreast of all pertinent federal and state financial aid regulations and making recommendations to ensure effective, efficient, and compliant team operations.

Additional Information to Applicants

Occasional overnight travel, and work beyond normal 8-5 business hours may be required.

Flexible scheduled available, including part-time remote or four-day work weeks.

8. Assisting with verification and conflicting information reviews of scholarship applicants during non-peak scholarship processing periods.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Associate degree or equivalent experience required. Bachelor degree preferred.

Black Hills State University is seeking applicants to fill an Ellsworth AFB Enrollment & Scholarship Specialist.

Reporting to the Vice President for Enrollment Management with dotted line reports to the Director of Military and Veteran’s Services and Director of Student Financial Aid, the Ellsworth AFB Enrollment & Scholarship Specialist is responsible for providing timely customer service relating to all functions of admission, registration, financial aid, and academic advising for students at Ellsworth Air Force Base (EAFB). They will develop processes and procedures to ensure timely processing of veterans benefit and active-duty airmen documents as well as troubleshooting concerns. This position will further be responsible to manage all scholarships for Black Hills State University, including maintenance of the NextGen Scholarship Management System and participation on the Athletic Eligibility Committee.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Maintain NextGen scholarship management software;
• Upload/enter all scholarships into the Ellucian Banner Student Information System;
• Organize and perform all scholarship communication for Athletic scholarships;
• Manage scholarship reporting percentages in the Athletic Resource Management System (ARMS);
• Serve as a part of the Athletic Eligibility Leadership Committee for BHSU, confirming that student athletes meet all minimum academic eligibility standards for participation in collegiate athletics.
• Provide assistance in university admission processes, including, but not limited to, application completion, processing and application credential evaluation;
• Provide timely transcript evaluation for experience included in the Joint Services Transcript, prior learning experience, and other coursework transferred from regionally accredited institutions;
• Counsel students in correctly completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA);
• Advise students regarding program requirements using the General Catalog, DegreeWorks, JacketHub, and other departmental resources;
• Assist students in using the Banner Self-Service registration system and providing registration assistance in Banner Admin;
• Triage student concerns and questions, directing them to the appropriate campus services;
• Provide other student services including BuzzCard, cashiering, technology and login assistance;
• Serve as a back-up certifying official, and in entering required data into the various military branch portals;
• Assist with cashiering and student accounts receivable services related to EAFB;

Education, Training and Skills Requirements:
• Baccalaureate degree or equivalent related experience

Preferred Experience:
• Familiarity with the BHSU General Catalog
• Trained in Ellucian Banner Admin and Self-Service functions
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Excellent customer service, follow-through and organization skills
