The Department of Transportation is looking for a motivated and dynamic individual to work in the Training Department to assist in providing SDDOT specific training to all levels of staff within the Agency. This position works closely with subject matter experts to create training based on SDDOT priorities. Types of training include: e-learning and class room style training and on-line video learning. The incumbent will conduct training needs assessments, by user role and provide recommendations, facilitate and conduct training courses based on Training Program standards, and construct, edit and produce courses to enhance the learning opportunities for department staff. The position organizes, stores and uploads course materials into a learning management system (LMS) for SDDOT staff use . This position develops training manuals, handouts and instructor guides according to established baselines. The position organizes and facilitates training development with groups of subject matter experts.

The Environmental Section is seeking a Wetland Specialist (Environmental Scientist I-III). As a Wetlands Specialist, this position negotiates technical and legal details of major wetland proposals with local, state, federal, and private entities on project actions that may have inter-related environmental impacts. This position will provide scientific and technical expertise to SDDOT staff, consultants, and contractor forces regarding wetland ecology, management, and regulation. You will leverage your knowledge of wetland guidance, laws, rules, and regulations to prepare technical reports and to develop project proposal scopes of work, agreements, and work orders with consultants.
SDDOT Environmental Section is looking for applicants that possess excellent people skills, the ability to quickly assess a situation and make a decision, a creative problem solver, and the ability to communicate with a diverse audience. The Wetland Specialist is an integral part of the team and works closely with scientists, biologists, planners, and engineers through project scoping, design, construction and beyond. The Environmental Section is seeking a Wetland Specialist (Environmental Scientist I-III). As a Wetlands Specialist, this position negotiates technical and legal details of major wetland proposals with local, state, federal, and private entities on project actions that may have inter-related environmental impacts. The total compensation of Hourly Wage + State/Federal Benefits for a typical year for entry level Engineering Manager II is approximately $114,058.75 annually.
Licenses and Certifications:Professional Engineering (PE) in Civil Engineering.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Only applicants with a bachelors degree in Civil Engineering or related field will be considered. A minimum of 8-10 years progressive technical experience preferred as well as ability to manage others in a supervisory capacity or demonstrated ability to effectively lead others. Experience managing consultant contracts and work orders as per department practices.
Knowledge of:
• engineering principals and practices, as well as State and Federal regulations as applied to highway design and construction;
• department policies, procedures, and standards regarding design and construction (preferred but not required)
Skill to:
• Effectively use Microsoft office products, microstation, InRoads, OpenRoads and design software;
• Provide technical guidance to team, department staff and contractors.
Ability to:
• demonstrate the department's core values
• manage multiple team projects and coordinate across inter-disciplinary teams;
• plan, direct and utilize available resources to complete work;
• effectively manage personnel;

Individuals selected for the position will be required to have direct (level 1) exposure to OC spray and demonstrate proficiency with two types of firearms (handgun and shotgun) prior to graduating from the basic Correctional Officer training program.
Job Functions:
• Maintains control and order in the institution by observing inmates and by enforcing institution operations memoranda and procedures to ensure inmate and staff security.
• Conducts inmate counts and maintains count book to account for all inmates at all times.
• Supervises inmates by assigning duties and monitoring work and recreation to maintain order in the institution.
• Works in an assigned specialty position to assist in maintaining security and provide services to all inmates.
• Confiscates contraband by searching inmates, living quarters, the institution, and visitors to maintain security.
• Monitors and controls the institution gates and cell doors to control inmate movement and to prevent inmate escapes.
• Distributes and monitors security keys, radios, inmate property, warehouse supplies, vehicles, mail, tools, restraints, chemical agents, and firearms in accordance with policy and procedures.
• Responds to emergencies such as fights, behavioral incidents and medical emergencies.
• Performs other work as assigned.
