Our Research Interests in electrochemical energy storage include:

Rank is dependent on qualifications and the record of the successful candidate. A strong background in thermal-fluid sciences and an earned PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field are required. The anticipated start term is August 2023. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, develop an externally funded research program in their area of expertise, participate in service-related activities, and supervise student design projects. Salary is commensurate with qualifications.

The Karen M. Swindler Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering (CBE) at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology seeks an exceptional candidate for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The department promotes an outstanding educational environment for students; thus, applicants should demonstrate an interest and commitment to excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses. Preference will be given to candidates with experience and research interest in biochemical and bioprocess engineering, biopolymers, and separations/bio-separations. Exceptional candidates with other research interests will also be considered. Previous university teaching, process design, and/or other industrial experiences are highly desirable as well as a strong record of multi-disciplinary collaboration.

The faculty candidate/hiring will be expected to conduct research through the $30MM POET Bioproducts Institute, a joint pilot-scale research institute between the State of South Dakota, POET, South Dakota State University, and the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology.

Candidates will have an earned doctorate in Chemical Engineering or in a closely related discipline at the time of appointment. Successful candidates are expected to initiate and/or sustain a strong, externally sponsored research program. The desired start date is January 2023 or August 2023.

The new faculty member will participate in the BS and MS programs in Chemical Engineering and the PhD program in Chemical and Biological Engineering. The successful applicant will work on IceCube data analysis including the measurement of cosmic ray primary particle energy and mass composition, R&D of cosmic ray event reconstruction for high precision, study of prompt muon signals in ultrahigh energy air shower events, or the integration of prototype instrumentation at the South Pole in the hybrid simulation and data analysis of IceCube. The successful applicant will also have opportunities to practice student mentoring and education outreach in the Black Hills region.

A graduate degree (e.g., PhD, Master, or equivalent foreign degrees) in physics with research experience in experimental astroparticle physics is required. Knowledge in software programming in C++ and Python is needed. Previous research experience with IceCube simulation or data analysis is preferred.

Physics faculty at South Dakota Mines are conducting internationally recognized research in astroparticle physics, dark matter search, neutrino physics, nuclear astrophysics, as well as condensed matter and materials science. The IceCube group at SDSMT consists of two faculty, two graduate students and undergraduate students working on IceCube simulation, data analysis, and the R&D of IceCube Generation-2.
