Reporting to the COO/CFO, the Director of Financial Planning and Treasury Services plays a critical role in leading the financial operations of one of the largest modern and contemporary art museums in the world. This financial leadership role, in close partnership with the Controller, will encompass both high-level and hands-on responsibilities impacting the financial sustainability of the organization. The Director of Financial Planning and Treasury Services will have responsibility for planning and managing the finance operations of the Museum. In addition, they will lead the development of long-range financial plans and business analysis, supervise budget systems, and ensure that museum constituents and stakeholders are informed owners of the institution’s financial health and direction. The position oversees a staff of two (2) financial planning managers.
Within the first 90 days, the Director of Financial Planning & Treasury Services will develop an objective picture of the finance function’s organization, its strengths and weaknesses. They will have spent significant time interacting with all levels of the finance function as well as key leaders across the institution to plant the seeds of collaboration and gain an understanding of priorities, challenges, and dependencies. During the first six months, the Director of Financial Planning will also have done a thorough assessment of the museum’s recent, current, and projected financials and begun making their mark in building and presenting relevant and timely financial topics to a variety of audiences, including staff and trustees. The Director of Financial Planning will coach their team towards the development and delivery of insightful analysis, clear storytelling, and influential recommendations.
Responsibilities & Duties
• Guide the development and administration of the Museum operating and capital budget process, including supervising the preparation of the budget processes, analyses, and reporting. Ensure the operating budget of $65M supports the museum’s programmatic vision and core priorities.
• Introduce and educate colleagues on new financial and budgeting concepts.
• Incorporate applied data and analytics into financial management across the Museum.
• Independently identify areas for financial improvement in all areas of the business.
• Lead cost benefit analysis for major strategic initiatives.

Reporting to the COO/CFO, the Director of Financial Planning and Treasury Services plays a critical role in leading the financial operations of one of the largest modern and contemporary art museums in the world. This financial leadership role, in close partnership with the Controller, will encompass both high-level and hands-on responsibilities impacting the financial sustainability of the organization. The Director of Financial Planning and Treasury Services will have responsibility for planning and managing the finance operations of the Museum. In addition, they will lead the development of long-range financial plans and business analysis, supervise budget systems, and ensure that museum constituents and stakeholders are informed owners of the institution’s financial health and direction. The position oversees a staff of two (2) financial planning managers.
Within the first 90 days, the Director of Financial Planning & Treasury Services will develop an objective picture of the finance function’s organization, its strengths and weaknesses. They will have spent significant time interacting with all levels of the finance function as well as key leaders across the institution to plant the seeds of collaboration and gain an understanding of priorities, challenges, and dependencies. During the first six months, the Director of Financial Planning will also have done a thorough assessment of the museum’s recent, current, and projected financials and begun making their mark in building and presenting relevant and timely financial topics to a variety of audiences, including staff and trustees. The Director of Financial Planning will coach their team towards the development and delivery of insightful analysis, clear storytelling, and influential recommendations.
Responsibilities & Duties
• Guide the development and administration of the Museum operating and capital budget process, including supervising the preparation of the budget processes, analyses, and reporting. Ensure the operating budget of $65M supports the museum’s programmatic vision and core priorities.
• Introduce and educate colleagues on new financial and budgeting concepts.
• Incorporate applied data and analytics into financial management across the Museum.
• Independently identify areas for financial improvement in all areas of the business.
• Lead cost benefit analysis for major strategic initiatives.
• With the COO/CFO, review and prepare necessary updates to Museum financial models and long- range plans.
• Provide timely, accurate, and transparent financial reports for the Board of Trustees, Board Committees, funders, and Museum staff.
• Forge strong collaboration with the Finance, Investment, and Audit Committees.
• Develop forward-looking, predictive models, and financial analyses to enhance financial performance and to meet long-term strategic goals. Utilize enterprise data and employ advanced analytics to inform decision making.
• Responsible for all treasury functions, including managing cash and developing and sustaining banking relationships. Manage and track the performance of the Museum's endowment and cash investments, in consultation with professional investments advisors, in keeping with the policies and investment guidelines established by the Board's investments committee.
• Negotiate banking and finance-related contracts, including capital financing as needed.
• Define and monitor appropriate financial metrics. Create and manage financial dashboards.
• Serve as a member of the Senior Staff, providing financial leadership and clear guidance to the Executive Team.
