Reporting to the COO/CFO, the Director of Financial Planning and Treasury Services plays a critical role in leading the financial operations of one of the largest modern and contemporary art museums in the world. This financial leadership role, in close partnership with the Controller, will encompass both high-level and hands-on responsibilities impacting the financial sustainability of the organization. The Director of Financial Planning and Treasury Services will have responsibility for planning and managing the finance operations of the Museum. In addition, they will lead the development of long-range financial plans and business analysis, supervise budget systems, and ensure that museum constituents and stakeholders are informed owners of the institution’s financial health and direction. The position oversees a staff of two (2) financial planning managers.
Within the first 90 days, the Director of Financial Planning & Treasury Services will develop an objective picture of the finance function’s organization, its strengths and weaknesses. They will have spent significant time interacting with all levels of the finance function as well as key leaders across the institution to plant the seeds of collaboration and gain an understanding of priorities, challenges, and dependencies. During the first six months, the Director of Financial Planning will also have done a thorough assessment of the museum’s recent, current, and projected financials and begun making their mark in building and presenting relevant and timely financial topics to a variety of audiences, including staff and trustees. The Director of Financial Planning will coach their team towards the development and delivery of insightful analysis, clear storytelling, and influential recommendations.
Responsibilities & Duties
• Guide the development and administration of the Museum operating and capital budget process, including supervising the preparation of the budget processes, analyses, and reporting. Ensure the operating budget of $65M supports the museum’s programmatic vision and core priorities.
• Introduce and educate colleagues on new financial and budgeting concepts.
• Incorporate applied data and analytics into financial management across the Museum.
• Independently identify areas for financial improvement in all areas of the business.
• Lead cost benefit analysis for major strategic initiatives.
• With the COO/CFO, review and prepare necessary updates to Museum financial models and long- range plans.
• Provide timely, accurate, and transparent financial reports for the Board of Trustees, Board Committees, funders, and Museum staff.
• Forge strong collaboration with the Finance, Investment, and Audit Committees.
• Develop forward-looking, predictive models, and financial analyses to enhance financial performance and to meet long-term strategic goals. Utilize enterprise data and employ advanced analytics to inform decision making.
• Responsible for all treasury functions, including managing cash and developing and sustaining banking relationships. Manage and track the performance of the Museum's endowment and cash investments, in consultation with professional investments advisors, in keeping with the policies and investment guidelines established by the Board's investments committee.
• Negotiate banking and finance-related contracts, including capital financing as needed.
• Define and monitor appropriate financial metrics. Create and manage financial dashboards.
• Serve as a member of the Senior Staff, providing financial leadership and clear guidance to the Executive Team.

Qualifications & Skills
• B.S. or M.S. in Accounting - or equivalent required. CPA and/or MBA a plus.

Reporting to the COO/CFO, the Director of Financial Planning and Treasury Services plays a critical role in leading the financial operations of one of the largest modern and contemporary art museums in the world. This financial leadership role, in close partnership with the Controller, will encompass both high-level and hands-on responsibilities impacting the financial sustainability of the organization. The Director of Financial Planning and Treasury Services will have responsibility for planning and managing the finance operations of the Museum. In addition, they will lead the development of long-range financial plans and business analysis, supervise budget systems, and ensure that museum constituents and stakeholders are informed owners of the institution’s financial health and direction. The position oversees a staff of two (2) financial planning managers.
Within the first 90 days, the Director of Financial Planning & Treasury Services will develop an objective picture of the finance function’s organization, its strengths and weaknesses. They will have spent significant time interacting with all levels of the finance function as well as key leaders across the institution to plant the seeds of collaboration and gain an understanding of priorities, challenges, and dependencies. During the first six months, the Director of Financial Planning will also have done a thorough assessment of the museum’s recent, current, and projected financials and begun making their mark in building and presenting relevant and timely financial topics to a variety of audiences, including staff and trustees. Reporting to the Collections Information Manager, the Collections Information Systems Specialist has a key role in the administration and advancement of the museum’s collections management system (CMS) and its integration with the museum’s greater information ecosystem. The position supports generous access to information related to artworks, artists, and museum programs, in ways that are in alignment with the museum’s strategic priorities and goals of the Collections Information and Access (CIA) department and the Collections, Exhibitions and Design (CED) division.
The Collections Information Systems Specialist expands utility of the CMS by creating complex data queries, designing reports for users’ daily work and special projects, and creating user-facing documentation. Reporting to the Collections Information Manager, the Collections Information Systems Specialist has a key role in the administration and advancement of the museum’s collections management system (CMS) and its integration with the museum’s greater information ecosystem. The position supports generous access to information related to artworks, artists, and museum programs, in ways that are in alignment with the museum’s strategic priorities and goals of the Collections Information and Access (CIA) department and the Collections, Exhibitions and Design (CED) division.
The Collections Information Systems Specialist expands utility of the CMS by creating complex data queries, designing reports for users’ daily work and special projects, and creating user-facing documentation. The Specialist promotes the system’s use through advocacy and support for staff at all locations, by implementing policies and processes for using the system and its contents, troubleshooting and documenting system functionality, and by performing general system administration tasks. They work hands-on with the CMS’s contents by directly contributing, reviewing, organizing, and disseminating data in the system. Working collaboratively with colleagues across CED, Curatorial, Information Technology, Marketing + Communications, Education and Community Engagement, and Visitor Experience, the Collections Information Systems Specialist assists in realizing museum-wide use, continued development, and stewardship of the CMS and its contents.

• System Management and Information Use
• Creates and executes complex queries using MySQL to produce results not available to users via the user interface.
• Designs reports using complex scripting to join tables and select data related to artworks, artists, and museum programs.
• Troubleshoots application and database issues reported by users.
• Researches and contributes data to the CMS, and reviews contributions made by staff, interns, and volunteers, by applying good practices in data management and in response to user needs.
• With direction from the Collections Information Manager, provides general system administration for the CMS, which includes liaising with users, the departments of Information Technology and Digital Experience, and the digital asset management team, as well as with the system vendor on upgrades, testing, documentation, and problem resolution.
• Compiles and disseminates statistics related to the museum’s collections and programs, including but not limited to artist identity information and the Director’s Office annual dashboard related to accessions and exhibitions.
• Works collaboratively with departments such as Library, Archives and Art Resources, Interpretive Media, and Education and Community Engagement to integrate other information resources into the CMS.
• Identifies, evaluates, and contributes art and artist data for works in the museum’s collection to digital resources such as Artsy, ArtStor, and Wikidata.
• User Support
• Works collaboratively with the Collections Information Manager to maintain and promote the collections management system, expand and refine its museum-wide use, and support users at all levels and in all locations of the museum.
• Maintains primary responsibility for user support and training for the CMS, which shall include advocacy with the system vendor on behalf of users; hosting regular drop-in clinics with users; identifying user trends and needs; creating and maintaining user-facing documentation in written, visual, and video formats.
• Works collaboratively to implement policies and processes for description, access, use, and preservation of digital assets and their data.
• Provides expertise and consults with staff on data standards and best practices, including metadata schemas, data modeling, thesauri, and taxonomies.

Qualifications & Skills
• Degree in Information Studies, Museum Studies, Art, or a related field

• Knowledge of modern and contemporary art and museum purposes, organization, and programs.

The SFMOMAMuseum Storeoffers the finest selection ofmodern and contemporary art books, as well as innovative design objects, furnishings, and print reproductions. The Product Development area of the Museum Store develops custom and exclusive merchandise related to its exhibitions and permanent collection. They also work with living artists to develop exclusive merchandise.
Position Description
• The Museum Store Product Development Intern will focus on helping to grow our exclusive custom print program from the permanent collection at SFMOMA as well as a partnership with Creativity Explored to add and grow works from their collection to be a part of the Custom Prints assortment. (Creativity Explored is a studio-based collective in San Francisco that partners with developmentally disabled artists to celebrate and nurture the creative potential in all of us.) The Museum Store is working with Creativity Explored to develop custom products and prints from their collection to be sold at SFMOMA. The Museum Store Custom Print Program allows customers to purchase prints from the SFMOMA collection in a variety of sizes and frame options in just three easy steps. It is one of the largest revenue streams in the Museum Store and has the potential to increase exponentially with more variety and offerings. The Museum Store Product Development Intern will help to grow this offering.
Project Plan
• The Museum Store Product Development Intern will help to identify works from the SFMOMA Collection from its digital archive and the Creativity Explored digital archive with the end goal of adding 20 works from each to the Custom Print Program at SFMOMA.
• The project will start with working with the Product Developer to help identify and narrow down works that could be added and track these works in/with Asana. This involves also working in collaboration with our Collections Information and Access team (CIA) at SFMOMA and also with the team at our vendor resource for the prints. The intern will help to download and track the digital files to be sent to our color correction specialist at the print vendor. Then work to color match the prints so they are as close to the original artwork as possible. Tracking progress in Asana for each work with the end goal of approval for both color and rights. The intern will help to schedule and look at works in person when available to achieve the closest color correct reproduction of prints possible.

The SFMOMAMuseum Storeoffers the finest selection ofmodern and contemporary art books, as well as innovative design objects, furnishings, and print reproductions. The Product Development area of the Museum Store develops custom and exclusive merchandise related to its exhibitions and permanent collection. They also work with living artists to develop exclusive merchandise.
Position Description
• The Museum Store Product Development Intern will focus on helping to grow our exclusive custom print program from the permanent collection at SFMOMA as well as a partnership with Creativity Explored to add and grow works from their collection to be a part of the Custom Prints assortment. (Creativity Explored is a studio-based collective in San Francisco that partners with developmentally disabled artists to celebrate and nurture the creative potential in all of us.) The Museum Store is working with Creativity Explored to develop custom products and prints from their collection to be sold at SFMOMA. The Museum Store Custom Print Program allows customers to purchase prints from the SFMOMA collection in a variety of sizes and frame options in just three easy steps. It is one of the largest revenue streams in the Museum Store and has the potential to increase exponentially with more variety and offerings. The Museum Store Product Development Intern will help to grow this offering.
Project Plan
• The Museum Store Product Development Intern will help to identify works from the SFMOMA Collection from its digital archive and the Creativity Explored digital archive with the end goal of adding 20 works from each to the Custom Print Program at SFMOMA.
• The project will start with working with the Product Developer to help identify and narrow down works that could be added and track these works in/with Asana. This involves also working in collaboration with our Collections Information and Access team (CIA) at SFMOMA and also with the team at our vendor resource for the prints. The intern will help to download and track the digital files to be sent to our color correction specialist at the print vendor. Then work to color match the prints so they are as close to the original artwork as possible. Tracking progress in Asana for each work with the end goal of approval for both color and rights. The intern will help to schedule and look at works in person when available to achieve the closest color correct reproduction of prints possible.
