POSITION SUMMARY:

Develop, negotiate
and finalize student financial plans consistent with financial
planning policies and procedures and with Federal/State regulations
for awarding aid. Work closely with new, continuing and re-entry
students and their families to ensure the financial plan and
re-plan continue to best meet the families’ needs. Counsel students
on all acceptances and other matters related directly to the
student financial plan. Assure that the South University
philosophy: quality services to clients; development, growth,
involvement and recognition of employees; sound economic
principles; and an environment which is conducive to innovation,
positive thinking and expansion - is considered in carrying out the
duties and responsibilities of this position. This is a
campus-based position.

KEY JOB ELEMENTS:
• Work cohesively
with Admission Representatives in order to facilitate outstanding
service to prospective students and their parents.
• Efficiently and
accurately package assigned students which includes new,
continuing, re-entry and transfer students.
• Assist
students/parents with the completion of the FAFSA and review the
resulting ISIR, assign the appropriate budget, and package the
students correctly.
• Create financial
plans for assigned students in compliance with institutional
policies and Federal regulations, communicate the plan to students
and parents, and effectively explain rights and responsibilities
for each aid source.
• Assist students and
parents with alternative means of financing any remaining balance
after awarding eligible federal, state, or institutional
aid
• Ensure student
files are complete and accurate and that aid is paid to students’
accounts in a timely manner.
• Review and complete
Basic Verification and C Code Reviews for students as
necessary.
• Utilize reports to
review students, analyze work needed, and work with the Director of
Financial Aid for priorities.
• Complete the
appropriate training modules within 30 days of the new or revised
module becoming available.

REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s degree
in a related discipline preferred OR Associate’s Degree plus 3
years of related experience with federal and student financial aid,
OR 5 years of related experience with federal and student
aid.
• Customer service,
problem-solving approach to work.
• Effective
communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
• Ability to make
small group presentations as well as skill in interacting as an
individual contributor.
• The
ability to multi-task, work independently, and make decisions based
on guidelines.
• Strong basic
computer software (MS Office) skills as well as exposure to more
concentrated financial aid software (Campus Vue/Campus Nexus
preferred)

The

essential. Must possess a desire and ability to study, practice and

to all regulatory requirements and internal policies. The position

government agencies, public school systems, and private businesses.

SUMMARY:

The
Associate
Vice Chancellor for Online Learning and
Innovation(AVCOLI) will
develop and implement a comprehensive online strategy that enables
South University to grow in all aspects of online education while
maintaining the existing reputation of academic quality. The AVCOLI
must be a highly innovative yet student-centric leader with a
strong interest in new approaches towards improving student access
and outcomes. The ideal candidate will have a strong traditional
university background as well as a record of invention and student
success.

The AVCOLIis
responsible for managing the key performance indicators of online
courses, and the continuous improvement of online student academic
experiences, including (but not limited to) the classroom
environment, engaged faculty and analysis of retention programs
that promote student success and persistence. The incumbent assumes
primary responsibility for developing innovative academic
experiences for all online learners, initiates programs to improve
student retention to graduation and assures effective strategies
for teaching excellence among full time and adjunct faculty. This
position is responsible for creating and sustaining an environment
of academic and professional excellence for students and faculty
and a collaborative working environment with Online team members.

KEY JOB
ELEMENTS:
• Execute
on initiatives aimed to improve the on-line student’s academic
journey, including the classroom experience, faculty effectiveness
and student outcomes. Utilize quantitative and qualitative data to
inform and prioritize high impact initiatives that facilitates
effective teaching and learning through improvements with people,
processes and technology.
• Manage
the process and continued development of the Faculty Lead Model
(FLM), a comprehensive leadership model that manages and evaluates
the performance of full-time and part-time faculty.
• Create
a strategic plan to build a robust Online Academic Support Center
that provides multifaceted academic support services designed to
enhance student learning and student success.
• Work
closely with program deans and the Director of Innovation and
Education to ensure timely course development and updates; the
learning management systems are maximized to support student
success and faculty engagement; digital textbooks align with course
outcomes and are accessible for students and faculty; and students,
faculty and support staff are well trained in navigating all
digital resources. Ensure regular collaboration with all vendors to
stay up to date on features and benefits of all systems. Seek
opportunities for improvements and enhancements to learning
resources.
• Analyze
data to detect barriers to student success, such as course
deficiencies, teaching effectiveness, student resource management,
and effectiveness of remediation, and collaborate across the
Colleges or Student Services to develop strategic programs or
initiatives to mitigate these barriers. Continue to collect data to
drive continuous improvement and document results; share results
with appropriate parties.
• Regularly
evaluate online faculty members using Student Evaluation of Course
(SEC) data and online faculty grade distributions and student
success/ completion rates for Online courses at end of each term to
identify trends and areas of improvement. Audit courses at least
once per quarter per faculty member to identify faculty engagement
and feedback in courses and response times to students. Develop
efficient reporting to review course success factors and faculty
success factors in each course and implement timely training,
coaching or course level improvements to mitigate
deficiencies.
• Manage
and report key contributors to online continuing, drop, and
re-entry student numbers and evaluate course withdrawals and
post-matriculation cancels from courses to identify areas of
opportunity for student success initiatives, faculty training and
to identify course/curriculum deficiencies. Communicate results of
analysis and report trends and issues to College Deans, Assistant
Deans, Program Directors, AVCAA and Student Services.
• Report
KPI metrics weekly to Provost team and university leadership
through an effective Continuing Student Review process, consistent
with best practices developed by the University.
• Create
targeted faculty development trainings to support specific online
faculty needs identified as areas of improvement from evaluations
and audits conducted and weekly CSR reports and anecdotal
information; Mentor and provide additional training/ support for
new faculty and faculty demonstrating the need for additional
support.
• Develop
programs to address common areas of student deficiency through
remediation, supplemental instruction, or other academic support
measures
• Works
closely with the Digital Resources Team and Faculty Training
Specialists to create and execute an effective faculty on-boarding
and deliver ongoing faculty development program; ensure the
Learning Management Systems and Student Information System are
being leveraged to maximize faculty engagement, student learning
and retention to graduation. Regularly explore innovative
opportunities for improvements, or new technology and resources to
improve student learning and outcomes.
• Effectively
collaborate with the Academic Counselors and Student Affairs to
maximize retention to graduation. Meet regularly to receive
feedback regarding the student journey and collaborate to develop
programs and activities that maximize student
retention.
• At the
direction of the Provost and in collaboration with College Deans,
Assistant Deans and Program Directors, institute processes to
assure that all Faculty are being appropriately scheduled,
supervised, developed and evaluated, prioritizing high performing
faculty when developing the schedule.
• Explore,
assess, examine and take steps to eliminate the barriers that
prevent college students from graduating on time. Stay current on
student retention data, research, and programs regarding
traditional and non-traditional online students through reading
publications and attending targeted workshops.
• In
coordination with the Provost, oversee academic policy and
procedures, including institutional policies, students’ rights and
responsibilities, and academic policies and procedures. Participate
in appeals and other academic procedures as
appropriate.
• Collaborate
with Academic Operations in the dissemination of the Academic
Calendar, Academic Catalogs, Student Handbooks and Academic Policy
implementation to all on line stakeholders and actively participate
in the University’s institutional effectiveness process and ensure
programmatic and institutional standards are met or exceeded
online.
• In
partnership with the Vice Chancellor for Compliance, Provost, and
College Deans, coordinate compliance of the campus’s educational
practices with South University policies, national, state, local
and regional regulations, and ensure the appropriate accrediting
criteria and requirements are maintained.
• Other
duties as assigned.

REPORTING
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Meet
data needs and reporting responsibilities with the Director of
Institutional Research.
• Generate
reports to demonstrate Digital Resources and Faculty Development
Team activities.
• Meet
reporting needs working in conjunction with the
Provost.
• Coordinate
administration of Faculty and Student Surveys.
• Provide
CampusVue and Power BI training for appropriate staff and faculty
online
• Provide
ad hoc reports to campus, University Administration and executive
team as requested.

REQUIREMENTS:
• A
minimum of 7 years of academic operations leadership experience in
a university setting (registrar and/or admissions experience a
plus).
• Terminal degree
from a regionally accredited institution in either higher
education
• Leadership in an
area related to one of the University’s academic
programs.
• Relevant teaching
experience in a university.
• Experience with
computerized administrative systems. Proficient with the use of
standard office applications on personal computers.
• Ability to resolve
inquiries and complaints from employees, students, regulatory
agencies, or members of the academic or business
community.
• Ability to
effectively present information to faculty and academic and campus
leaders, university leaders, and public groups.

ABILITY TO
TRAVEL:

The
individual must be able to travel out of the local area
occasionally on an overnight basis as required to participate in a
variety of conferences and meetings.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The
Assistant Dean for the College of Arts and Sciences is a member of
the full-time faculty (rank commensurate with experience). The
primary responsibilities of the Assistant Dean for the College of
Arts and Sciences are to supervise Department Chairs for programs
in the College, inclusive of the Clinical Mental Health Counseling,
Criminal Justice, General Education, Legal Studies, Psychology and
Theology programs. The Assistant Dean also supervises Program
Directors for campus and online programs, and faculty in order that
SACSCOC and programmatic accreditation standards and state agency
regulations are met, and to ensure that content delivery of both
existing and new programs are of high quality and align with the
pedagogy design of active and effective learning. The incumbent is
responsible for the highest quality student experience as it
relates to the faculty and curriculum. The incumbent must assure
that the South University philosophy is considered in carrying out
the duties and responsibilities of this position: quality services
to students; development, growth, involvement, and recognition of
employees; sound economic principles; and environment which is
conducive to innovation, positive thinking and expansion.

The
Assistant Dean for the College of Arts and Sciences also
participates in activities that promote the stature of the academic
programs, departments, and colleges and abides by the mandates set
by the South University Board of Trustees and
administration.

KEY JOB ELEMENTS:
• Work
under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Arts and
Sciences.
• Supervise
the educational process to ensure every student and faculty member
is involved in a positive educational experience through the
learning, teaching, and social environment.
• As a
member of the faculty, responsible for teaching 4 courses during
the academic year.
• Retains
non-teaching responsibilities as a full-time faculty member (rank),
as outlined in the faculty job description and in accordance with
the provisions of Faculty Supplement to the South University
Employee Handbook.
• Communicates
consistently and effectively with the college dean, department
chairs, program directors and other South University
administrators.
• Provides
leadership of and direction to Department Chairs, Program
Directors, and Assistant Program Directors, and faculty for campus
and online programs within the College to identify initiatives to
improve the student and faculty experience. Develops with these
individuals action plans and drives plan completion to attain the
relevant goals of the South University Strategic Plan. Provides
regular assessment of progress of these initiatives in attaining
goals and holds self and direct reports accountable for
implementation.
• Ensures
Department Chairs, Program Directors and faculty in the College,
are in compliance with South University’s academic policies and
procedures, educational policies, and SACSCOC and programmatic
accreditation standards and state agency regulations.
• In close
coordination with South University Institutional Assessment and
related personnel, provides leadership in the assessment process
and ensures that the South University Institutional Effectiveness
Plan is applied to Campus programs and courses, with the results
used to improve the student experience.
• Reviews
full-time faculty candidates according to SACSCOC and programmatic
accreditation standards, along with the policies and procedures of
the University, making full-time faculty (rank) hiring
recommendations to the College Dean.
• Ensures
proper credentialing of full-time and adjunct faculty according to
SACSCOC and programmatic accreditation standards, along with the
policies and procedures of the University.
• Trains,
manages, and leads the Department Chairs and Program Directors
according to the policies and procedures of the
University.
• Supervises
(through the Department Chairs/Program Directors) the full-time and
adjunct faculty evaluation process, including the completion of
periodic course observations for quality assurance and annual
faculty evaluations, to ensure faculty provide a strong,
student-focused educational environment through consistent
adherence to course rubrics, student competencies, and course
pedagogy
• Supervises
the faculty development process in close coordination with the
Department Chairs/Program Directors for programs within the College
and related College personnel in compliance with South University
faculty development policies.
• Investigates
and resolves student and faculty educational problems requiring
academic actions in consultation with pertinent individuals and
departments, under the direction and approval of the College Dean
according to the policies and procedures of the University
(including all process and documentation requirements).
• Collaborates
with the Department Chairs/Program Directors for programs within
the College to supervise the curriculum revision and development
processes (including ad hoc and educational delivery issues) to
ensure the achievement of program and course competencies as
determined by the College and University.
• Supervises
course scheduling, faculty scheduling, college meetings, and other
pertinent operational matters.
• As
appropriate for the program, reviews the transfer of credit
decision made by the Department Chair/Senior Chair/Program
Directors for programs within the College and transfer of credit
materials to affirm or alter the transfer of credit
decision.
• Participates
in the development and periodic meetings of the pertinent South
University advisory councils.

REQUIREMENTS:
• Successful
record of increasing responsibility and leadership within a
university or industry setting, with Campus and/or academic
experience a plus.
• Earned
terminal degree from a regionally accredited university in higher
education leadership or in a discipline related to South
University’s curriculum, with a minimum of 18 semester or 27
quarter hours of graduate coursework in the discipline. Preference
is given to applicants with experience relative to the College of
Arts and Sciences.
• Significant
teaching experiences at the collegiate level, with online teaching
experience a plus.
• Strong
leadership and strategic planning skills.
• Strong
analytical and change management skills.
• Strong
fiscal and personnel management experience.
• Experience
with computerized administrative systems, including proficiency
with the use of standard office applications on personal
computers.
• Distinction
between the Assistant and Associate position levels is commensurate
with academic and professional background and
experience.
