• Manage architecture exceptions for the application, including identifying, documenting, taking through exception approval process and remediation where and when possible.
• Monitor application services to ensure performance consistently meets non-functional requirements (response time, security, etc.)
• Ensure technology solutions are in line with industry standards, best practices and technologies in the insurance industry.
• Take a lead role in the detailed design (Component Diagrams, Sequence Diagrams, HLD documents) of the transformed IT ecosystem from a technology, process, integration and data design perspective.
• Influence & engage key business & IT stakeholders in the definition of technology requirements.
• Provide technical support, mentor and develop vendor and junior IT Specialist resources and the test teams.
• Working closely with the Architecture Review Board throughout lifecycle of change & provide detailed handovers as change is delivered into test and production environments and integration to wider ecosystem.
• Adhere to standard processes/procedures and policies including delivery methods, change management, service transition, audit, data management, security, SOX etc.
• Develop optimal modular solutions covering the latest technologies, application scalability and reusability.

Position Summary:

The Principal Data Architect is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining efficient and scalable data architecture within an organization. Accountabilities include:
• Data Strategy Development: Develop and implement a strategic vision for the organization's data architecture aligned with business objectives.
• Data Modeling: Design conceptual, logical, and physical data models to support business needs, ensuring data integrity, efficiency, and scalability.
• Database Management: Oversee database design, implementation, optimization, and maintenance to support application development and business operations.
• Data Governance and Compliance: Ensure adherence to data governance policies, standards, and regulatory requirements to maintain data security, privacy, and compliance.
• Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with stakeholders, including business analysts, data engineers, IT teams, and management, to understand data needs and drive alignment.
• Technology Evaluation and Implementation: Assess new technologies, tools, and methodologies to enhance data management processes and recommend their adoption where applicable.
• Performance Optimization: Identify performance bottlenecks and implement solutions to optimize data storage, retrieval, and processing.

Required Qualifications
• 5+ years working as a data architect or in a similar role.
• 7+ years in design/development experience database design, data modeling, and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes and building reports.
• Best in class technical subject matter expertise and domain knowledge related to data lake/warehouse management for large scale enterprise.
• Strong understanding of data management principles, data governance, and regulatory compliance.
• Experience with relational and non-relational databases, data warehousing, and big data technologies.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Familiarity with cloud-based data solutions (Azure, GCP, Snowflake) and their associated services is often preferred.
• Certifications in relevant areas (e.g., Certified Data Management Professional - CDMP) can be advantageous.
• Facilitates adoption of cloud-native/cloud-first architectures.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in the Insurance data domain is a PLUS.
• Experience in GCP/BigQuery is preferred.
• Experience in migration from On-Prem Data Warehouse (like DB2, Hadoop) to Cloud Data Warehouse (like GCP, Snowflake) is preferred.

Education

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$144,200.00 - $288,400.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
