Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
• Advocacy and Government Relations
• Develop and implement advocacy, legislative, and coalition strategies at the City of Chicago, Cook County, State of Illinois, and federal levels to advance the organization’s legislative and policy priorities.
• Develop and oversee advocacy strategy that inspires key stakeholders to engage in advocacy, increases the number of people engaged in advocacy, and aligns advocacy and legislative relationship activities to achieve policy and government relations goals.
• Maintain strong working knowledge of Magnificent Mile Association programs, operations, and policy goals to be able to accurately and strategically represent association interests with external stakeholders.
• Strategically deploy Magnificent Mile Association staff, board members, partners, advocates, and other stakeholders to advance legislative and government relations goals.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to engage Association volunteers, and supporters in advocacy.
• Monitor and analyze city, county, state, and Federal legislation to assess their impact on the organization’s mission, operations, and policy goals.
• Manage the organization’s lobbying registration and reporting.
Duties
• Write memos, legislative summaries, talking points, presentations, newsletter articles and other materials as needed to engage and inform internal and external stakeholders.
• Work closely with hired lobbyists and/or media professionals on issues, legislation, and actions.
• Collaborate with other advocacy organizations, such as IHLA, IRA, the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, BOMA, CAA, and IRMA, on areas of common interest.
• Prep Association CEO to represent the Association’s position accurately and confidently on various issues to media, elected officials, partners, and other key decision makers and influencers and be capable of representing the Association, as needed/directed.
• Develop and deliver trainings, presentations, and other materials to educate and engage internal and external stakeholders on advocacy and legislative issues.
• Provide press guidance and represent the Association in media and other communications, as needed.
• Monitor and establish a system for tracking organization-wide engagement with elected officials at the local, county, and state levels.
• Monitor and establish a system for tracking the impact of city, county, and state legislative initiatives while recruiting and mobilizing members into action.
• Attend and provide support to the Association’s Planning and Advocacy Division and several committees, including Advocacy Committee, Public Way Committee, Project Review Committee, and Sign and Urban Design Committee.
