Job Purpose

The Director also bears a shared responsibility (with other UA units) for UA's impact reporting to various donor segments on the differences private support makes at the University.

Essential Functions

1. Serve as the University's Chief Alumni Officer. Demonstrate Tech's ongoing value to alumni and promote pride in the institution, systematically building long-lasting, mutually-beneficial relationships with diverse constituents.

2. Provide strategic leadership for the CAC and help position the Division to realize its mission and vision.

3. Serve as the directional leader in annual giving, communications, engagement, events, social media, and stewardship.

4. Develop goals, objectives and evaluation methods for CAC programming and, collaboratively, with the CAC team members.

5. Establish, implement and manage a comprehensive program of engagement and solicitation to include alumni, donors, students, parents, faculty/staff and other constituents through multiple channels.

6. Identify and cultivate individuals who can serve as volunteer leaders; manage the Alumni Association (AA) Board of Directors, leveraging their efforts for the benefit of the University.

7. Develop and maintain appropriate reporting mechanisms to stakeholders such as (but not limited to) the President's Office and the AA Executive Board.

8. Develop and sustain mutually-beneficial internal and external partnerships, especially with regard to fulfilling the organizational stewardship function of the unit.

9. Maintain existing revenue streams, as appropriate, and pursue new revenue streams that are in the best interests of AGES and the AA.

10. Serve on the UA Leadership Team and as a strategic thought partner to the Vice President for University Advancement.

11. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Eight years of relevant experience with five years' experience in alumni relations, annual giving, or public relations related field. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to relate to diverse groups of people and the ability to motivate and supervise employees. Proven ability to manage budgets. Experience with management of staff, both paid and volunteer, to unify them toward a common goal for success. Knowledge and appreciation of developing metrics (both soft and hard) and using those metrics to influence behavior, direction and strategy.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced degree from an accredited institution. Higher education experience. Non-profit or higher education campaign experience.

Work Hours

Typical hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Some evening and weekend hours are required.

Salary
Commensurate with education and experience. Administrative pay grade AD48.

Proposal Preparation:
Prepares, reviews, submits, and assists with the development of proposals to external funding agencies. Reviews proposal guidelines, prepares budgets, budget justifications, cost sharing documentation, and other needed budgetary forms per the University and the sponsor's requirements. Obtains financial and budgetary salary rates and travel rates. Ensures that the appropriate percentage and amount of Facilities and Administrative Costs are included in the proposal budgets. Submits proposals electronically for approvals and makes sure that the proposals are submitted by the proposal deadline.

Project Administration/Management:
Reviews awards/contracts from funding agencies. Revises budgets as required by the sponsor. Prepares and submits activations electronically for signatures. Calculates the percentage of effort that is to be included on the activations. Obtains the FOAPAL and the payroll and financial aid detail codes as needed for projects. Prepares subcontracts, agreements, Personnel Action Forms, faculty summer pay, and accounting related cost share and release time as needed on the activated projects. Reconciles project accounts, prepares and submits for approvals budget revisions, tracks expenditures and ensures they are allowable under state and federal guidelines and sponsor guidelines. Prepares and submits requests for project no-cost extensions as needed. Prepares and submits closeout forms after project completion. Communicates with faculty, students, other university offices, and external funding agencies as needed to analyze and interpret policies, guidelines, and procedures, meet deadlines, provide estimates and details of expenditures, and work as needed on problem solving issues. Coordinates and assists with research project-related workshops. Reviews, corrects, and obtains signatures on Time and Effort reports for personnel working on research projects.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with one year of related experience or an associate's degree (or 60 relevant credit hours) from an accredited institution with three years of related experience. Effective communication skills. Experience with basic software such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases. Ability to read analytically and understanding/interpret terms and conditions. Ability to comprehend and apply TTU, State of Tennessee, and federal policies and contractual requirements, including industry and international universities and organizations, related to research. Knowledge of basic accounting principles. Ability to be self-directed and make independent judgments/decisions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, and the public. Ability to multi-task.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in accounting or related business field with two or more years of accounting and/or contract/budget administration and/or government related work experience is preferred. Experience working with Banner.

The university offers multiple undergraduate and graduate programs emphasizing cybersecurity and research focus areas in AI in cyber, blockchain, cyber-physical systems security, network security, malware, secure software development, and security education and workforce development. CEROC also administers various outreach programs, including a virtual dual-enrollment Golden Eagle Cyber Certificate Program, Gen-Cyber Camps for high school students, and CEROC on Wheels mobile classroom experiences.

At CEROC, our mission is not only to produce security-conscious students to enter the workforce but also to create a pipeline of cyber-defenders and researchers by educating them with a standard cybersecurity curriculum that integrates original research of our faculty.

The director is responsible for leading the growth and sustainability of academic cybersecurity initiatives, including the workforce development pipeline, as charged to CEROC by the state, and for growing cybersecurity research at Tennessee Tech. The director represents Tennessee Tech and Tennessee, as appropriate, in industry, state, and national forums in cybersecurity workforce development and research. The director supervises and leads in ensuring CEROC’s continued designation as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity (NCAE-C) in Cyber Defense Education (CD). The director also provides team leadership in developing cyber-related curricula and disciplines across the university and Tennessee. CEROC will occupy a brand-new facility in the Ashraf Islam Engineering Building, opening in April of 2024.
