The School of Music at The University of Akron invites applications for a full-time, 9-month non-tenure track assistant professor of instruction to serve as Assistant Director of Bands and Director of Athletic Bands. The UA School of Music is part of the Fine Arts Division of Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences and has a long history of excellence in performance and teaching. The School of Music offers a comprehensive music program to nearly 200 majors at the bachelors and master’s level and is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music. Responsibilities
Duties will include assisting the Director of Bands with all facets of a comprehensive university band program. The successful candidate will be expected to complete the following, with additional duties as assigned according to School of Music needs:
• Conduct and coordinate the UA Symphony Band (second of three concert bands)
• Co-direct the Concert Band in the spring semester (third of three concert bands)
• Direct and coordinate “Ohio’s Pride,” The University of Akron Marching Band, and Blue and Gold Brass Basketball pep-band
• Program, design, and instruct a new halftime show for each home football game
• Serve as liaison between UA School of Music and Department of Athletics
• Teach and organize Basic Conducting class for music education and performance majors
• Teach and organize Marching Band Techniques class for instrumental music education majors
• Assist with coordinating recruiting events sponsored by UA Bands and in support of UA School of Music
Date of Appointment
A 9-month salary plus an additional tenth month stipend will be offered beginning August 1, 2023.
Required Qualifications
Master of Music. Demonstrated experience as a band conductor/educator, including evidence of successful concert and marching band programming, instruction, and performance, as well as marching band drill design.
Preferred Qualifications
DMA, PhD, or ABD. Demonstrated experience as a band conductor/educator at the college/university level, including comprehensive knowledge of Pyware Drill Design software and marching band arranging experience.

Responsibilities
Identify and solicit prospective donors for the assigned college or program. Develop fundraising strategies for generating money from individuals, corporations and foundations. Travel to meet with prospective donors and donors. Write a variety of documents related to fundraising initiatives. Produce solicitation materials, informational brochures and documents for the purpose of motivating donors. Establish annual and long-range fundraising goals and objectives. Plan and organize meetings related to fundraising events.
Required Qualifications
Requires a relevant Bachelor's Degree and valid driver's license. Requires a minimum of 2 years experience in fundraising or alumni relations, or significant experience working in higher education at the college level preferably reporting to the dean or associate or assitant dean. The candidate will have demonstrated leadership supporting initiatives important to the college and dean such as expternal corporate relations. Strong writing and verbal communication skills, marketing and sales skills along with the ability to work with internal and external constituents required.

Position Summary
The University of Akron, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is seeking applicants for two full-time tenure track (TT) positions at the rank of Assistant Professor with an anticipated start date of Fall 2023 in emerging areas of power and controls. Research is a critical aspect of these positions and candidates will be expected to establish nationally recognized research programs and attract external competitive funding from federal, state and industry sources. The successful candidates will actively mentor and educate graduate and undergraduate students. Additional duties include updating and maintaining lecture and laboratory courses, technical currency, actively participating in the university, college, department, and program committee work, assessment/accreditation responsibilities, student recruitment, and other duties as assigned.

About the Department
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is a well-established unit in the College of Engineering and Polymer Science. The department offers BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering as well as BS and AAS degrees in EEET. There are currently 16 full-time and 6 part-time faculty members in the department. The department will be hiring 4 new faculty members starting Fall 2023.
Faculty within the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering currently pursue research in power and energy systems, control systems, electronics, networking and communications, cybersecurity, sensors, AI and machine learning, and computational electromagnetics.
There are state of the art research and teaching laboratories and testing facilities. Center of Advanced Vehicles and Energy Systems (CAVES) hosts a DOE funded commercial dynamometer facility, prototyping and testing facilities for power electronics, sensors, electronic circuits, batteries, electric machines, renewable energy systems, power distribution and transmission network. The department hosts a high power microgrid test bed for the integration of renewable energy systems. CAVES has worked with 50+ companies over the past 10 years and attracted over $25M funding for research in the areas of power, control and sensors.

Required Qualifications
An earned Ph.D. in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or a closely related area.
