Summary

The Director of Stewardship and Business is responsible for the day-to-day functions of the office, coordinates administrative duties and provides leadership to office staff and volunteers; plans, organizes and directs efforts to promote parishioner involvement in the parish mission, ministries, and services; and coordinates Parish Stewardship efforts.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Office Administration
• Provide leadership and supervision to office staff

• Collaborate with staff and coordinators to develop, provide access to and/or maintain training programs for all parishioners involved in ministry so that they may understand and effectively carry out their roles and responsibilities
• Assure the proper supervision and evaluation of all parishioners in ministry at the parish by reviewing and assessing volunteer performance and the suitability of the placement; and providing opportunities for reassignment, replacement, or termination of volunteers
• Assure the proper recognition for parishioners who are involved in parish activities
• Coordinate the Annual Parish Stewardship and Ministry Fair
• Systematically reach out to newly registered parishioners including working with ministry areas and parish organizations on specific recruitment needs
• Research, develop and implement ways to encourage participation by uninvolved parishioners
• Ongoing stewardship education and awareness in bulletin, website, newsletter and email
• Annual Catholic Appeal and Special Collections coordination.
• Coordinator of all Capital Campaigns
• Integrate the Bishops' Pastoral Letter on Stewardship (Stewardship: A Disciple’s Response) throughout the Parish: “Stewardship involves a lifelong process of study, reflection, prayer, and action. To make stewardship a way of life for individuals, families, parishes, and dioceses requires a change of heart and a new understanding of what it takes to follow Jesus without counting the cost.”

Finance
• Maintain financial bookkeeping system (QuickBooks or diocese approved programs) including accounts payable, receivable, cash receipts, and 1099 reporting.
• Attends regular Diocesan Bookkeeper/Administrator meetings to ensure that the parish is in step with Diocesan policies and procedures.
• Prepares for quarterly Parish Finance Council meetings. Attends these meetings and ensures minutes are taken for these meetings.
• Supervises and supports counting teams and counting processes. Ensures adherence to the Diocesan Collection Guidelines. Utilizes ParishSOFT or other systems to administer parish Sunday collections in an accurate and efficient manner.
• Balances and reconciles parish accounts and bank statements in a timely manner on a monthly basis, providing monthly financial reports to the Pastor.
• Ensures that midyear and year-end financial reporting requirements of the Diocese are met in a timely manner.
• Takes primary responsibility for formulation of the parish budget, working closely with the Pastor for accuracy in estimating costs and submitting a responsible budget.
• Supervises and balances petty cash funds.
• Verifies employee app-based timecard, monitors employee sick and vacation days including charges and credits, and submits payroll using Paylocity or other Diocesan Programs.
• Responsible for State and City tax reports.
• Maintains all accounting support documents including W-9s.
• Responsible for timely reporting of W-2Gs and 1099s.
• Reaches out for support to the Diocese when needed.

Other
• Participate as a member of the parish pastoral team. This is accomplished by collaborating in cooperative ventures with other parish ministries, organizations, and individuals by participating in meetings and retreats, and by assisting in the planning and participation in parish social events to promote Time & Talent objectives and activities.
• Maintains current level of knowledge and skills required for this ministry. This is accomplished by regular updating, reading appropriate materials, and participation at workshops, conventions, the Parishes of San Diego Stewardship Network, the Diocese of San Diego Stewardship Day, etc. Incumbent also participates in local, regional, and national professional organizations as approved and as appropriate.Staff resource to the Outreach and Social Justice Committee (Stewardship outside the parish) where all social justice issues and outreach requests are filtered for the parish
• Staff resource to the Vocation committee at the parish and parish involvement with Diocesan Vocations Office activities
• Assure parish involvement in Diocesan and Deanery activities and events
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
• Must be a Catholic in good standing with thorough knowledge and familiarity with the organizational structure and practices of the Roman Catholic Church, its teaching and rites

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
