Collaborates with area schools to develop and manage clinical and non-clinical student career development programs to increase future associate pipeline. Assists with career fairs and recruitment events, as needed.

Attends various hospital committees to understand their function and provide input and consultation, participates in employee/community engagement activity, and travel as directed to various sites/and other duties as assigned.

Cultivates a comprehensive understanding of the institutional, residency, and fellowship Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) requirements.

After initial training, and with proper support, retains knowledge to complete tasks with less direct oversight from senior leadership team and/or the office of business operations. Incorporates feedback from senior leadership team and/or the office of business operations, showing improvement and progression in assigned tasks/activities.

Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) - 24-bed unit.

Population served: Encompass the broad spectrum of critically ill patients in medicine including but not limited to sepsis, diabetic ketoacidosis, suicides, end-stage liver disease, end-stage renal disease, gastro-intestinal bleeds, acute respiratory distress syndrome, Pneumonia, Communicable diseases, end-of-life care, Post Arrest Care and patients that have acute on chronic medical issues/comorbidities. Bedside procedures- intubations, lines, and bronchs, Level 1, Minnesota tube, manual proning, and bedside CRRT.

Patients are typically admitted to this unit from the Emergency Department, outside facilities, and various units within our facility. There is a collaboration of interdisciplinary teams which is essential to the care provided to these patient populations. All patients admitted to this unit are under the care of Pulmonary Faculty attendants with physician coverage 24/7. MICU Nursing staff respond to all rapids and codes in the hospital. MICU maintains the arrest bed 24/7 for rapidly declining patients in the hospital environment.

Orientation in this unit for RNs is 10-12 weeks depending on the experience level of the RN. The goal of care in this unit is to provide highly skilled complex nursing care to provide stabilization to the critical needs of the patient.

• Provides all patient care in a manner that is culturally based and age-specific. Measures vital signs; reports all changes including mental status. Specimen collection. Assists with activities of daily living (ADL's)

• Assists with respiratory care for patients. May perform EKG's mobile care phlebotomy (MCP), and blood glucose.

• Facilitates the maintenance of a clean, safe and organized environment for patients and coworkers. Removes equipment when no longer in use to appropriate area for cleaning. Re-orders and stocks materials as necessary. Reports maintenance issues.
• Ensures call lights answered promptly. Ensures placement of patient identification bands. Ensures that side rails and restraints are applied for patient safety and per policy. Uses proper body mechanics and universal precautions.

Identify and oversee risk management issues. Ensures staff compliance with established policies, procedures, standards and accreditation and licensing regulations. Actively involved and engage staff in departmental performance improvement (PI) activities according to department PI plan.
• Assist the manager in evaluation the quality of patient care and staff performance through: Personal observation. Facilitating quality improvement monitoring activities. Interviewing patients/families/staff. Reviewing documentation.

Clinical Resource and Competency:
• Maintain hospital wide and department specific nursing competencies and completes annual competencies in required time frame. • Performs routine coding audits evaluating accuracy of assignment of codes, disposition, POA indicators and DRGs as indicated.
• Performs focus coding audits on specific topics, DRGs codes etc.
• Provides feedback to coders on an individual basis and communicates educational opportunities to CCS Educator.
• Tracks results of audits and reports findings as indicated. Considers feedback from the coders as appropriate.
• Works with the coding managers and Coding Educator to identify topics for educational and training purposes and assists Coding Educator in development of training materials and identification of case examples. Attends educational sessions to ensure continuity among auditors and coders. Responds to coder questions and reviews cases as necessary to assist with correct code assignment.
• Assists with coding when necessary to help meet department goals.
• Review cases in question by outside agencies, payers, UCH Quality and other internal departments. Communicates findings/rationale for code and DRG assignment. Coordinates corrections with coding staff Tracks and reports on denial activities and final results.
• Serves as the primary resource for coding questions, information and feedback for CCS associates as well as other UC Health departments and personnel.
• Reviews educational materials thoroughly and takes responsibility for applying this information to their duties Seeks to clarify information and educational material when necessary.
