Position Summary:

The University of Charleston, a dynamic private institution with a learner–centric, outcomes–focused philosophy, is seeking a Fieldwork Coordinator. This individual will work closely with the Program Director to oversee all aspects of fieldwork and assume teaching duties for the OTA program.

Essential Responsibilities:

The Academic Fieldwork Coordinator (AFWC) will be responsible for:
• The planning, organization, and implementation of all level I and level II fieldwork activities.
• Contacting sites to arrange placements, placing students, and being a liaison between the university and the fieldwork sites.
• Work in collaboration with the clinical instructors to assure standardization and consistency of rotation schedules, evaluations, policies, and procedures pertaining to the student’s clinical education.
• Prepare lesson plans, course syllabi, and course outlines for didactic and clinical courses.
• Maintain record of the overall clinical rotation schedule and attendance of students.
• The AFWC is also responsible for teaching responsibilities within the OTA program.
• Provide regular counseling and advising for students based on their clinical and didactic performance and progress in the program.
• Travel to fieldwork sites to ensure clinical education effectiveness.
• Serve on appointed committees within the department, division, and university as specified by the program director, dean (either of the division or of the faculty) or the faculty.
• Participate in continuing education and attend district, state, and/or national professional organizational meetings.
• Strive consistently to be a positive example for the program, the sponsoring institution, the community, the students, and the graduates of the program.
• Maintain contact with professional agencies.
• Participate in recruitment for the program.
• Assist the program director with overall program effectiveness.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
• Must have a minimum of 3 years clinical experience.
• Must be a licensed occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant, with a valid West Virginia OT/OTA license.
• Out-of-state applicants must obtain a West Virginia valid license prior to the start date. They must also be certified by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) as an occupational therapist.
• Must hold a minimum of a baccalaureate degree awarded by an institution that is accredited by a USDE-recognized regional or national accrediting body.
• Must have a valid Driver’s License
• Must be initially certified by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)
• Passion for Occupational Therapy education
• Creative and professional spirit with proven success in leadership.
• Strong interpersonal abilities with excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with students, staff, faculty, and administrators.
• Demonstrate abilities in teaching and curriculum development.
• Self–motivated with refined organizational skills.
• Willingness to learn and participate in the accreditation process.
• Occasional overnight or multi–night travel is required.

Qualified application must be able to meet certain physical requirements which include, but are not limited to:
• Lift up to 10 pounds
• Occasional walking, standing, climbing, stooping, etc.

Release time to pursue clinical work will be available. This position offers faculty rank based on experience and a competitive salary commensurate with qualifications. Qualification and Skills Required:
• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Experience in sales, marketing, and/or higher education is preferred.
• The candidate must be a goal-oriented self-starter who can handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, strong computer and organizational skills.
• Must be able to think, plan, and execute strategically.
• Candidate must have a customer service orientation and utilize relationship building techniques.
• The successful candidate will be a team player who demonstrates flexibility and the willingness to “pitch in” when needed.
• Candidate must have a reliable car and a valid driver’s license.
• Must be able to lift and carry marketing/promotional materials (up to 30 pounds).

They will be expected to work with the Program Director to grow the psychology program. This nine-month position is scheduled to begin on August 15, 2024.

Essential Responsibilities:
• Develop and teach courses at the undergraduate level in the areas listed above.
• Teach courses in face-to face and online formats.
• Communicate effectively and work cooperatively with colleagues.
• Advise students in-seat and online.
