Job Title Associate Instructor Working Title Associate Instructor Location Campus Job Summary The Department of World Languages and Cultures at the University of Utah invites applications for a one-year Associate Instructor position in Classics to teach six classes, three each semester, in the 2023– 2024 academic year. The Associate Instructor role is equivalent to what is called an ‘adjunct’ role at many institutions. We will begin reviewing applications on Monday, 3 April. The position will remain open until filled.
The Classics program in the Department teaches Latin, ancient Greek, and some Classics classes with readings in English, to majors and minors in the field, to other classical language learners, and to an extremely wide and valued general student audience.

Responsibilities The successful applicant (a) will be able to teach at least one of and preferably both Latin and ancient Greek excellently, at any level up to at least the advanced undergraduate, and (b) will be ready to contribute excellent Classics classes with readings in English (‘Classical Civilization’ classes in our catalog). Examples of the latter include introductory lecture courses on aspects of ancient Greek or Roman culture, including more specialized courses such as Ancient Greece and Rome in the Cinema, Greek Drama, or Images of Women in Ancient Greece and Rome. We can create new Classics class topics to make best use of the successful candidate’s expertise and enthusiasms.
Minimum Qualifications We expect that the successful applicant will have at least an MA in Classics, or ABD status in a Classics PhD program, or some exact equivalent to these. We prefer a candidate who will have a PhD in Classics or a cognate field in hand by Fall 2023.

Job Title Associate Instructor Working Title Associate Instructor Location Campus Job Summary The Department of World Languages and Cultures at the University of Utah invites applications for a one-year Associate Instructor position in Classics to teach six classes, three each semester, in the 2023– 2024 academic year. The Associate Instructor role is equivalent to what is called an ‘adjunct’ role at many institutions. We will begin reviewing applications on Monday, 3 April. The position will remain open until filled.
The Classics program in the Department teaches Latin, ancient Greek, and some Classics classes with readings in English, to majors and minors in the field, to other classical language learners, and to an extremely wide and valued general student audience.

Responsibilities The successful applicant (a) will be able to teach at least one of and preferably both Latin and ancient Greek excellently, at any level up to at least the advanced undergraduate, and (b) will be ready to contribute excellent Classics classes with readings in English (‘Classical Civilization’ classes in our catalog). Examples of the latter include introductory lecture courses on aspects of ancient Greek or Roman culture, including more specialized courses such as Ancient Greece and Rome in the Cinema, Greek Drama, or Images of Women in Ancient Greece and Rome. We can create new Classics class topics to make best use of the successful candidate’s expertise and enthusiasms.
Minimum Qualifications We expect that the successful applicant will have at least an MA in Classics, or ABD status in a Classics PhD program, or some exact equivalent to these. We prefer a candidate who will have a PhD in Classics or a cognate field in hand by Fall 2023.
