Summary:
The Resident Director is a full-time, live-in staff member responsible for providing day-to-day Department of Residence Life functions, administration, management, and staff supervision in a student-centered university-owned campus residence hall of 200-225 residents or apartment area of approximately 350-380 residents. Evening and weekend availability are essential and expected. Residency required in on-site apartment furnished as a condition of the job.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Hire, train, and supervise 5-9 Resident Assistants and several other student desk or support staff. Address resident developmental needs and ensure that quality customer service is consistently and effectively provided to residents and university guests. Assist in departmental surveys and benchmarking efforts.
• Develop and support educational, social, and community building programs and engagement activities which involve and engage residents in their diverse communities. Collaborate with faculty and staff in development or enhancement of specific Living Learning Communities and other thematic based academic partnerships or residential lifestyle options which enhance retention. Liaison to academic program stakeholders or managers of campus auxiliary or administrative units located in-area. May advise Resident Housing Association or community specific sub-group.
• Oversee developmentally-based student conduct process within area, in conjunction with Dean of Students Office staff; address policy infractions, contractual problems, or situational crises as needed. Advise and counsel diverse residents or student organizations on a variety of developmental issues as may be needed or directed.
• Facilitate and assist in managing Residence Life facilities needs of residents (e.g., maintenance work orders, public space preparations, damage assessments, cleaning staff, resolve policy questions, etc.). Assist with resident management operations (e.g., initiating and tracking space changes, making resident space assignments, annual room selection and re-selection process, potential visitor and summer conference housing, etc.). Work cooperatively with Residence Life staff in coordinating move-in/move-out processes each term in assigned hall or apartment area.
• Provide regular administrative presence in respective area. Share responsibility with other professional staff for nightly rotating administrative on-call coverage for all housing areas.
• Participate in on-going recruitment of prospective residents by coordinating campus visits/tours, Preview Days, Orientation activities, etc. Assist in developing Residence Life marketing, promotional, and informational materials, etc.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in appropriate field.
• One or more years of Residence Life or other collegiate administrative experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in appropriate field; copy of all academic transcripts required prior to finalization of offer of employment.
• Two or more years of experience in Residence Life beyond undergraduate student staff level (ex: 2 years of graduate school or full-time experience).
• Experience with transfer, graduate, and/or international students.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Excellent customer service skills and orientation.
Strong (positive/effective) communication and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of community and student development principles.
Strong Supervisory Experience And Guidance Skills.
Demonstrated leadership ability in resolving judicial incidents and roommate conflicts, intervening during crisis and emergency situations, advising and counseling students and student groups, and developing social, educational, and recreational programs and community building activities.

Summary:
Under general supervision by the Vice Chancellor, the person in this position is responsible for carrying out administrative operations of the Office of Student Affairs. This person acts as liaison between the Division and the rest of the campus community and interprets and disseminates authoritative information on university, campus and division policies and procedures. This position is responsible for overseeing and facilitating all personnel matters such as new hires, payroll, searches, and Banner processing. This position is also responsible for security access for the Division as the back-up to the Executive Asst. to the VC. The position has a highly visible role and is responsible for all communication and coordination within the Division and has extensive responsibility for dealing with confidential communications.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Gathers, interprets and communicates relevant information and provides advice on personnel issues, student programming and policies and procedures to the Vice Chancellor in order to facilitate decision making. Coordinates and conducts research, investigates, plans, organizes, interprets and analyzes data regarding enrollment and other student affairs issues.
• Oversees budget and finances for Vice Chancellor's gift funds, sending notes of thanks to donors. Reconciles monthly transactions on various funds. Maintains financial files for all units in Student Affairs, acts as backup unit security contact, department card manager for p-card. Participates in the decision making process for use of end-of-year funds.
• Serves as liaison between the Vice Chancellor and internal staff, campus and university units, external units and outside agencies. Works closely with staff within the office and division to exchange information and/or negotiate on behalf of the Vice Chancellor. Advises and assists the Vice Chancellor on policies and procedures regarding student development, annual reports, schedules and maintains student affairs meetings, disseminates information to units.
• Provides supervision of the daily administrative activities of the Division of Student Affairs, including coordinating and managing projects and supervising support staff. Oversees and facilitates all new hires in the Division, participates in the search processes, coordinates Banner training and related training for new employees. Approves and sends all HRFE for the Division.
• Maintains all academic leave requests, both monthly and quarterly, for the Division. Acts as payroll approver for units. Enters student's time for various units without clerical support. Maintains all personnel records for the division, approximately 150 employees.
• Recruits, selects, and supervises student workers, including hiring, training, coordinating, assigning tasks and work schedules, and conducting student and GA evaluations.
