Our undergraduate program, one of the few in the nation, approaches the theories and methods of historic preservation from an interdisciplinary perspective with emphasis on teaching and service. A small, close-knit team of enthusiastic faculty with expertise in archaeology, architectural history, building science, museum studies, and urban planning teach lower-level introductory courses in these disciplines as well as a wide range of upper-level courses with a significant community-engagement and service-learning component. Our small classes, extensive one-on-one mentoring, and practice-driven, inclusive curriculum draw both in-state and out-of-state students of all identities, abilities, and differences. With its numerous historic sites and buildings, cultural landscapes, museums and heritage organizations, the larger Fredericksburg area serves as a laboratory that engages students and faculty.

Responsibilities:

This position involves teaching courses in archaeology, including an introduction to the discipline, field and laboratory methods, as well as artifact analysis and interpretation, in addition to the introductory course in historic preservation and other courses that align with the successful candidate’s expertise and research interests. This position requires management of the departmental archaeology lab as well as service to the university and the community. Faculty are also expected to engage in scholarly and professional development.

Required Qualifications:

A PhD in Anthropology, Archaeology or another relevant field is required. ABD applicants will be considered but the PhD must be awarded within one year of employment. Applicants should also demonstrate experience in teaching archaeology, including methods and theory, with a focus on the United States; professional experience in archaeology, including field and lab work; and experience in community engagement. Successful applicants will demonstrate an enthusiasm for teaching at the undergraduate level and dedication to high-impact learning in an inclusive environment that embraces diverse talents and backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

Expertise in cultural resource management and historic preservation; knowledge of architecture; GIS skills; familiarity with current, relevant technologies; experience in archaeology lab management and conducting archaeological research with university students; ability to work with diverse groups and individuals will be considered an asset.

UMW is a public liberal arts and sciences university dedicated to effective teaching.  A CAEP-accredited provider, the College of Education offers a B.S.Ed in elementary education and programs in secondary education (biology, chemistry, computer science, English, Earth science, history and social sciences, mathematics, and physics), PreK-12 education (theater arts, visual arts, music—vocal or instrumental, and foreign language—French, German, Latin, and Spanish), and special education for undergraduate students. nominations for the position of Dean of the College of Business.
The University of Mary Washington seeks an experienced, dynamic
leader with a strong commitment to furthering the growth and
development of the College of Business. The successful candidate
should have the ability and interest to develop, articulate, and
execute a shared vision for the College. The Dean should have a
strong commitment to supporting the educational mission of the
University, with high standards in teaching, research, and service,
as well as having the skillsets to serve as the chief spokesperson
and advocate for the College of Business both within and outside of
the University.

The Dean is responsible for providing leadership in defining the
College's strategic priorities, including maintaining AACSB
accreditation, mentoring and supporting faculty with their
professional development, furthering the high-quality academic
experience and support for students, and for continuing the current
growth of the College across its undergraduate and graduate
programs. The Dean must show evidence of successful leadership,
high standards of professional integrity, exceptional communication
and interpersonal skills, and a proven record in an administrative
position with responsibility for developing and guiding strategy,
motivating and leading a team, engaging external constituencies,
and fostering diversity.

Qualifications:

• Track record of publications, outstanding teaching and service
sufficient to warrant the rank of full professor in the College of
Business.

• Graduate degree in a functional business discipline or related
field.

• Significant engagement with AACSB accreditation/re-affirmation of
accreditation.

• Demonstrated success in implementing and enhancing diversity,
equity and inclusion initiatives.

• Demonstrated record of success with fundraising and enhancing
financial resources.

• Demonstrated success in leading initiatives that increase student
enrollment, retention and completion.

• An ability to develop a shared vision through open communication,
consensus-building and transparency.

• Proven track record engaging with and fostering relationships
with industry, as well as community partners.

• Demonstrated commitment to teaching business in a liberal arts
setting, with a preference for experience teaching business in a
liberal arts setting.

• Ability to cultivate a climate of professional cohesiveness and
support within the College and across campus, including excellent
listening, decision-making and consensus- building skills.

The College of Business

Officially founded on July 1, 2010, the UMW College of Business
builds on Mary Washington's tradition of a well-rounded
undergraduate program in the liberal arts, with small classes that
encourage direct interaction with its expert faculty. As other
schools of business are just discovering the value of a solid
grounding in the liberal arts for tomorrow's leaders, UMW's
undergraduate business program has been, and will remain, firmly
rooted in its liberal arts foundation.

Today, the AACSB accredited College of Business (COB) has 18
full-time faculty members from diverse backgrounds and offers an
undergraduate degree in Business Administration with majors in
Accounting, Business Administration, Marketing, and International
Business, as well as an MBA program. As a teaching-first
institution that is grounded in the liberal arts and centrally
located between Washington, D.C., and Richmond, the COB develops
critical thinkers who are honorable leaders and work
collaboratively to innovate, solve business problems, and address
societal needs. The COB offers students opportunities for
internships, executive mentorships, study abroad experiences,
volunteer work, and research collaboration with faculty.

Since the 1920s, Business education has been an integral part of
Mary Washington, evolving as the institution did from primarily
preparing teachers to preparing future leaders in a wide variety of
fields. In 1948, Mary Washington began offering an Economics and
Business Administration major, separating them officially into two
departments with separate majors in 1980. That same year, a
Master's of Business Administration degree was added. In 1999,
Business was one of two evening programs (the other was Education)
opening at the new Stafford Campus, thus continuing the tradition
of serving the educational needs of the community and the growing
region.

UMW's main campus is in Fredericksburg, an hour's drive from the
nation's and state's capitals in Washington, D.C., and Richmond.

address continuing and professional needs and hosts a local county

One-third of UMW students have an international experience, in one

countries, before graduating. On campus, students participate in
over 100 clubs and organizations centered on academics, arts,
sports, student government, cultural diversity, and other
interests.

The Mary Washington Eagles have 19 teams competing in Coast to Coast Athletic
Conference in the NCAA Division III. UMW has been recognized as
having the best overall athletic program a dozen times, and 334
Eagles have been named to All- American teams. The University also
offers team sports in rugby and esports, 23 club sports, indoor and
outdoor tennis facilities, a gymnasium, and a fitness center.

The University is affordable, especially for Virginia residents,
with tuition and fees of approximately $13,500 for undergraduates,
while non-residents pay just over $30,000. The University
administers $44 million annually in financial assistance. Graduate
school costs $625 per credit hour for in-state residents; $1,165
per credit hour for out-of- state residents.

The University of Mary Washington is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools
Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award baccalaureate and
master's degrees. Program accreditations include the College of
Business by AACSB

General Description of Position

Office Assistants work under the supervision of the Associate Director. The OA position primarily consists of maintaining the front desk of Marye House which includes, but is not limited to:
• Answering calls and directing them to the appropriate person

• Taking and returning phone messages
• Respect for any confidential information (s)he may encounter

Along with maintaining the front desk and other duties each Office Assistant will be assigned a collateral assignment which they will be responsible for throughout the year.
