Position Announcement
The University of Oregon Department of Philosophy seeks applicants
for an Assistant Professor of Philosophy specializing in the
Philosophy of Science. We have strong interest in candidates whose
research and teaching focuses on the philosophical, historical, and
practical dimensions of domains of scientific inquiry connected to
areas of recent and future growth at the University of Oregon
including (but not limited to) biomedical engineering,
microbiology, ecology, environmental science, neuroscience,
cognitive science, behavioral and social sciences, as well as
issues at the intersection of science and ethics (such as
discussions of race and gender in genetics). The candidate must
also have knowledge in the history of philosophy and be qualified
to teach upper-level courses in the history of modern philosophy
drawing on thinkers from the era of scientific revolution (and
specifically the 17th and 18th centuries).
Department or Program Summary
We are a diverse and growing department with strengths in
Continental Philosophy, American & Pragmatist Philosophy,
Feminist Philosophy, Latin American Philosophy, Ethics, Social
& Political Philosophy, Environmental Philosophy, the
Philosophy of Technology and other areas. In addition to the listed
AOS/AOC the Department currently has additional teaching needs in
Philosophy of Race, Advanced Logic, and Epistemology—we invite
applicants to submit sample syllabi in any of these areas.
The University of Oregon is on the academic quarter system, and the
default teaching load is five courses across three terms each year.
Research and teaching expectations are high. Teaching expectations
include introductory, middle-level, and advanced undergraduate
courses, graduate teaching in the area/s of specialization and
competence, mentoring of graduate student research at the M.A. and
Ph.D. levels, directing undergraduate and M.A. theses, as well as
chairing or being part of dissertation committees. The department's
faculty keeps a dynamic, expanding, and high level of research and
publications nationally and internationally. Service is also taken
as a substantial part of faculty duties and responsibilities. We
particularly welcome applications from scholars who are from
populations historically underrepresented in the academy, and/or
who have experience working with students from diverse

The Department of Global Studies at the University of Oregon seeks
a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Global Political
Economy to start in Fall 2023. We seek a scholar who holds a Ph.D.
in a relevant social science, humanities, or interdisciplinary
program by the time of appointment and whose expertise addresses
one or more of these areas in qualitative and/or quantitative
perspective: economic globalization and its political and social
impacts; international political economic institutions and
processes; debt, dependency, and the legacies of colonization; and
the relationships between global political economy, human
development, and development strategies and policies. We are
especially interested in candidates who take critical,
interdisciplinary, and decolonial approaches to the global
political economy; and whose teaching and research complement core
foci in our department, including food systems, education, global
health and wellbeing, and environment and climate change. In their
