The Opportunity: The Center on Education Data and Policy is seeking a research analyst to work on a range of education policy projects on topics such as universal prekindergarten, school funding, school assignment, school segregation, and economic mobility. We are looking for individuals with a background in social science and/or public policy (especially education policy) and strong data management... and analysis skills. The successful candidate will contribute to multiple project teams, including through the following types of tasks: Responsibilities: Write computer programs that clean, merge, and efficiently store education datasets. Write computer programs that analyze datasets for a variety of research projects, ranging from blogs to major reports. Draft sections of reports and other research products. Serve as resource to other project staff on quantitative methods. Contribute to project management, including tasks such as budget monitoring, workplan development, monitoring toward short- and long-term project goals, and coordination with other project staff. Contribute to development of proposals for external funding, including research plans and budgets. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to and manage workflows on multiple projects. The Income Support Team in IBP carries out research on a range of topics, including the social safety net, social insurance, taxes, and child support. The team’s research includes microsimulation modeling, analyzing the effects of different programs and policy alternatives, and tracking state policies for select safety net programs. The Income and Benefits Policy Center seeks a research assistant with a strong interest in social safety net programs to join the Income Support Team. What You’ll Do: Collect and analyze state Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF) policies for the CCDF Polices Database project. Work with large simulation models (TRIM3 and ATTIS) to estimate how changes to safety net policies affect families’ economic well-being. Compile and analyze data sets using statistical analysis software (e.g. SAS, State, R). Summarize findings and present data effectively in multiple formats. Work closely with senior researchers to contribute to research papers. Who You Are: The successful candidate will Possess a bachelor’s degree in a field related to social science (e.g. public policy, political science, sociology, or economics). Preferably, have prior research experience (for example, through school coursework or internships). Have a strong interest in CCDF and other social safety net programs. Lived experience and personal familiarity with social safety net programs is a plus. Be interested in a position that requires highly-detailed work including both quantitative and qualitative elements. Be detailed-oriented and self-motivated with the ability to work on multiple priorities, work independently and as part of a team, and communicate effectively. Exhibit strong quantitative research skills, including prior experience with SAS, R, or similar software. Prior work with large data sets and household-level data is a plus. The Events Manager will be dedicated to WorkRise, a research-to-action network hosted by the Urban Institute to create a more equitable and resilient labor market for low-wage workers, and will work closely with the initiative’s core team... to coordinate and execute working meetings, private convenings, and public events held in Washington, DC and throughout the country. The Urban Institute’s Grants and Contracts Office is seeking a Contracts Administrator to join our expanding team. Our office’s principal duties include providing compliance support over the entire award life cycle, from proposal review to negotiating contracts, grants and subcontracts to award closeout in support of research primarily funded by private foundations, and federal, state, and local governments. We provide management and oversight of Urban’s award portfolio to mitigate risk; ensure compliance with Urban policies and procedures and funder requirements; and support best practices in award management. The LAB is seeking an energetic, organized, and proactive individual to join the center operations team as a senior project manager. Under the general supervision of the LAB’s Director of Center Operations, the position will provide support throughout the project lifecycle on a diverse portfolio of projects and help lead the operations team’s work on tasks including preparing the business volume for RFP responses and proposals, using Excel templates to build project budgets, facilitating contract and subaward requests, analyzing project spending, and identifying project closeout requirements. This is an ideal position for a professional who is looking for a role to apply existing business operations expertise, mentor more junior operations staff, and grow their skills and responsibilities. The Operations team applies their expertise in nonprofit management, process improvement, and business operations to interface between the center and the key business offices at Urban (e.g., Accounting, Finance, Grants & Contracts). Members of the Center Operations team are positive problem solvers, collaborative, and rely on one another to brainstorm solutions, yet also work independently to manage several competing deadlines on a daily basis. *Please note that a cover letter is required to be considered for this position. What You’ll Do: Contribute as a key member of a small team that serves as the “go-to” people in the LAB for questions regarding contract compliance, project specific tasks, and larger institute initiatives. Routinely assess requests for operations team assistance to determine scope of request, deadlines, and level of urgency and work independently to track, complete, and follow up on assigned tasks. Perform a variety of project and operations management tasks, including budget creation, invoicing, subcontractor management, and financial analysis and small-scale event and meeting planning and logistics. Support LAB staff during proposal development, including reviewing federal, state, local and foundation RFP requirements, compiling budgets (using Excel templates), preparing checklists, managing deadlines, collecting submission packages, and reviewing documents with a strong attention to detail. Work with principal investigators (PIs) and their project staff to ensure they conduct work per scope, deadlines, and budget. This includes applying a solutions-oriented mindset to troubleshoot project issues, conducting award reviews, leading regular meetings between PIs and LAB’s vice president, and reminding PIs about project deadlines and spending. Offer guidance to LAB staff regarding Urban’s business processes such as consultant agreements and subcontracts, including organizing submission materials, corresponding with consultants and contractors, and formatting and editing documents. Communicate effectively with multiple research teams and project leaders and staff in other offices and centers at the institute. Interface with all departments across the organization and center policy area teams to build effective relationships that allow for efficient and productive interactions and collaboration on specific tasks. Who You Are: Possess a Bachelor’s degree in non-profit management, business, accounting, finance, public administration, public policy, or related field, and 7+ years of related experience and/or training, or a Master's degree in one of these fields and 3+ years of related experience. Bring prior knowledge of the proposal process and display solid experience reading RFPs and pulling necessary requirements for complex, multi-year budgets; experience with government contracting and budgets is preferred but not required. Experience working with Salesforce is preferred but not required. Demonstrate experience with preparation and analysis of business volume and project documentation, including, but not limited to: creating budgets, using enterprise resource planning software to analyze project financials, reviewing grants and contracts for key project requirements, and conducting project risk assessments. Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to review a large volume of complex information and distill it into a concise, actionable summary. WorkRise, a research-to-action network for jobs, workers, and mobility hosted by the Urban Institute, is seeking a detail-oriented, highly organized, and proactive project administrator to join its team. The successful candidate will work closely with the initiative’s Executive Director, Operations Director, and other core members of the team, and will play a key role providing executive-level scheduling and administrative assistance, supporting the project’s operations and performance management, and coordinating communications, events, and meetings with high-profile stakeholders.
