Content Strategy Director
USAFacts (a Ballmer Group organization) is seeking a Content Strategy Director who can lead a team of data analysts and content creators in the pursuit of one goal: Empowering Americans with the facts...
https://usafacts.org/
https://www.linkedin.com/company/usafacts/
You will help guide this team to leverage government data to answer people's most pressing questions and to produce content that can effectively engage people on our site and across all the digital channels where they are seeking answers—from written articles at USAFacts.org, to fact-based videos on TikTok and beautiful data visualizations on Instagram. You will be responsible for bringing together our award-winning content into one cohesive strategy. You will be charged with developing and overseeing a consistent voice and tone throughout our work. You will also embrace and model our shared values of being Trustworthy, Empowering, Approachable, and Measured.
Duties
Create Content –You will lead a team of data analysts and content creators to share the facts with Americans. Using everything from data visualization and infographics to long-form content and video, you’ll experiment with how our target audience wants to understand the facts.
Update Content – We are a data-driven organization, and data updates all the time. Knowing how to update the content regularly and precisely is key to this work.
Design & Manage a Comprehensive Content Calendar – Syncing across multiple teams and platforms you’ll make sure that we are all aligned on what messaging should be published to the world and when.
Lead & Manage Talented People – You know how to effectively manage and lead a team of direct reports and how to create systems that allow work to flow across an organization.
Skills
Content Strategy (The Big Picture) – You operate with a strategic lens on content—not just how to produce great work, but a deep understanding of why you’re doing it. The vision you set for the team allows people to feel empowered to get creative and find pride and autonomy in their role. You are skilled at bringing in data and research to inform your approach and are dedicated to meeting the organization’s goals to achieve our lofty mission. You know when it’s appropriate to invest time and money to create something fantastic and you know when something needs to go out quick and easy to meet an urgent need. People trust your tactics and investments because they always ladder up to a clear strategy.
Leadership – You are a skilled leader and communicator. Not only will you manage a team of direct reports, you will also work across all facets of the business. Data-Driven – You are conversant in data visualization and know how to tell contextual stories with data that deliver complex information in a way that is easy for people to understand. You are energized by the constraint of doing this work using US government data as the source. We believe that using the data gathered by civil servants who span administrations is one of the best ways to understand what is really happening in our country by the numbers.
Organic & Paid Distribution – You have a knack for knowing how to create content that breaks through the noise. You know how to build a content flow that capitalizes on organic audience development, influencer outreach, traditional PR, and paid social campaigns.
SEO – You shun clickbait but know how to use keyword research to provide answers to the real questions that people are asking. You weave SEO into your process in a natural and empowering way.
Social – You always think about where to reach your audience. Repackaging and mixing content to use between all social channels is foundational to how you approach the art and science of this role. You stay up to date on the trends in the industry and enthusiastically embrace new channels and ways of creating and distributing content.
Email Marketing — You know the importance of email in driving engagement with a loyal audience, and how to partner with people to use the latest tools and technology to build email campaigns and automations that serve our audience at different points in their journey.
Background
You have 8-10 years of experience leading content teams with skills that easily transition between marketing and editorial in a mission-driven organization.
Your portfolio of accomplishments includes multiple forms of content (video, graphics, writing) and metrics that explain your successes and where you have learned from failures.
You have successfully led cross-functional teams to create content that earns shares. You know how to seek out internal resources while smartly supplementing with external resources when appropriate.

We are seeking a Communications Leader who can manage a team of data analysts and content creators in the pursuit of one goal: Empowering Americans with the facts.
You will help guide this team to leverage government data to answer people's most pressing questions and to produce content that can effectively engage people on our site and across all the digital channels where they are seeking... answers—from written articles at USAFacts.org, to fact-based videos on TikTok and beautiful data visualizations on Instagram. You will be responsible for bringing together our award-winning content into one cohesive strategy. You will be charged with developing and overseeing a consistent voice and tone throughout our work. You will also embrace and model our shared values of being Trustworthy, Empowering, Approachable, and Measured.
Duties
Create Content – You will lead a team of data analysts and content creators to share the facts with Americans.
The vision you set for the team allows people to feel empowered to get creative and find pride and autonomy in their roles. You are skilled at bringing in data and research to inform your approach and are dedicated to meeting the organization’s goals to achieve our lofty mission. You know when it’s appropriate to invest time and money to create something fantastic and you know when something needs to go out quickly and easily to meet an urgent need. People trust your tactics and investments because they always ladder up to a clear strategy.
Leadership – You are a skilled leader and communicator. Not only will you manage a team of direct reports, you will also work across all facets of the business. You are skilled at sharing a strategic vision, getting stakeholder buy-in, and leading cross-functional teams to meet and exceed the organization’s goals.
Measuring Success – You know how to create KPI’s. Setting quantitative and qualitative goals is a key part of kicking off anything you work on. You use this data to continually improve your team’s output and measure progress to meet our organization’s mission.
Email Marketing — You know the importance of email in driving engagement with a loyal audience, and how to partner with people to use the latest tools and technology to build email campaigns and automation that serve our audience at different points in their journey.
