The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) invites
applications for an Assistant Provost for Student Success. UTC has
chosen A Moc’s First Year as its SACSCOC Quality Enhancement Plan.
The purpose of A Moc’s First Year is to enhance student success and
our community through the creation of an intentional first year
experience and learning community model serving first-time,
first-year students. This is a twelve-month, administrative faculty
position.

Under the direction of the Provost, the Assistant Provost (AP) for
Student Success provides leadership direction to the UTC community
of faculty, staff, and students, and facilitates the
implementation, strategic iterations, assessment, and ultimate
success of A Moc’s First Year. This new position will work to
create a transformative learning environment campus wide.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Serve as co-chair of the A Moc’s First Year Implementation
Committee

Lead the participation of faculty, staff, and members of A Moc’s
First Year Implementation Committee; provide a detailed annual
timeline for all A Moc’s First Year activity; maintain
documentation of progress on timeline goals and objectives; develop
and iterate new workflows and infrastructure for A Moc’s First Year
operation; and when implementation is complete, disband current
committee, and form new A Moc’s First Year Advisory
Committee.

Lead implementation of A Moc’s First Year assessment and
evaluation plan

Create and iterate a comprehensive timeline and schedule for
assessment activities and plans; write and disseminate information
reports on assessment efforts; and collaborate with the Office of
Planning, Evaluation and Institutional Research as needed.

Lead A Moc’s First Year implementation

Lead implementation of A Moc’s First Year including workflows,
designations, activities, assessment, and other initiatives; lead
processes for integrating and institutionalizing A Moc’s First Year
themes, outcomes, and activities into UTC’s culture; develop and
disseminate information on A Moc’s First Year processes to
administrators, faculty, staff, and students, including providing
workshops and training sessions; organize faculty and staff
training and professional development related to A Moc’s First
Year; and communicate regularly and serve as A Moc’s First Year
liaison with the campus and impacted groups.

Lead A Moc’s First Year business operations

Document funding needs for A Moc’s First Year and prepare budget
proposals and analysis; ensure the maintenance of all appropriate
files and documents; provide grants, stipends, reimbursements, and
other funding for A Moc’s First Year activity; iterate A Moc’s
First Year budget, position descriptions, and workflows; and
supervise an administrative specialist position who assists with A
Moc’s First Year initiatives.

The AP will participate in QEP-related curricula and work on
additional Academic Affairs projects and initiatives.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:
• Knowledge of student success initiatives from the academic
affairs and student affairs perspective
• Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion best
practices
• Communicate effectively to generate interest in and excitement
for the goals of the A Moc's First Year

Minimum Qualifications:
• Master’s degree from an accredited university and three years
or more of leadership experience, including a proven history of
successful collaborators
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with academic and
enrollment management leadership, faculty, staff, and students

honor shared governance and equity, diversity, and inclusion best
practices
• Effective writing, speaking, and nonverbal communication skills
appropriate for interacting with diverse constituencies

Professor Level in Construction Management. The successful
candidates should have a Ph.D. in related e ngineering,
construction management, or a closely related field from an
accredited program giving him/her the ability to teach
undergraduate and graduate courses in the commercial construction
curriculum. Examples of areas of instruction are Estimating,

This is a twelve-month, full-time, Assistant Professor appointment
that requires year-round instruction, a physical presence on
campus, and advising and supervising multi-disciplinary research at

and hybrid learning environments.

The learning and leadership programs competency based, and the
curriculum is multi-disciplinary. The curriculum is work/experience

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess the following:
• An earned doctorate Ph.D., Ed.D. (or equivalent) in a relevant
field (e.g. Quantitative Research Methods, Psychology,
Organizational Behavior).
• Evidence of research expertise and productivity in one or more
areas in the context of leadership, cognition, decision-making, or
other disciplines in the social sciences.
• Documented substantial professional experience. Specifically,
the successful candidate should have a minimum of 5 years
organizational experience.
• The candidate should also demonstrate knowledge and experience
in teaching Research Methodology, Applied Research, and/or Applied
Statistics at the doctoral level and provide evidence of
contribution to national professional organizations.
• Experience in the use of Learning Management Systems is
required.

The preferred candidate will have experience in the dissertation
process and will show evidence, experience, and skill in
facilitating learning through instructional technology (synchronous
and asynchronous). Experience in qualitative research methods, data
mining, and predictive analytics are preferred.
