Purpose
To lead multiple research projects to inform inclusive undergraduate teaching practices, provide mentoring programs for pre-doctoral scholars, lead professional development to support faculty and graduate students, and contribute to publications and funding proposals.
Responsibilities
• Develop and implement research in alignment with the overall vision for Texas Mindset Initiative: Higher Education and CNS Office of STEM Education Excellence research objectives.
• Lead research team on a large federally-funded project: ensure that research aims are completed within established deadlines and budgets, anticipate project needs, identify bottlenecks by probing into different project directions, use continual improvement plans to update project timelines, and lead discussions to keep the project on track.
• Collaborate with the College of Natural Sciences (CNS) to support departmental excellence and equity: conduct and evaluate student experience surveys, provide trainings in inclusive pedagogy to instructors, and adapt and develop professional development programming targeted toward CNS audiences
• Facilitate dissemination within CNS and/or more broadly via CNS communications, presentations at conferences, and written works when appropriate
• Contribute to funding proposals and reports to support research and program development
• Plan and implement a mentoring program for postbaccalaureate fellows: train fellows in basic research and related skills, match fellows with in-depth research experiences, and provide structured training and mentorship with the goal of acceptance and success in future doctoral programs.
Required Qualifications
• PhD degree in psychology, education, sociology, management, or related field
• 3-5 years of experience with research design and awareness of psychological factors influencing motivation (growth mindset, belonging, stereotype threat)
• Experience providing professional development programs
• Experience in seeing at least one large project through the full life cycle with proven ability to complete projects according to outlined scope, budget, and timeline
• Familiarity or experience with undergraduate instruction and institutional structures
• Experience in teaching and expertise in pedagogy
• Ability to create and deliver oral presentations and write summary reports
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate
Preferred Qualifications
• 5+ years of experience with research design in higher education (e.g., randomized controlled trials, etc.) and in projects involving psychological factors influencing motivation (growth mindset, belonging, stereotype threat, etc.)
• Documented experience in working with postsecondary institutions and faculty researchers on creating and implementing research interventions at the student and educator levels
• Experience in seeing at least one large government-funded research project through the full life cycle, including familiarity with institutional review boards and research ethics, reporting requirements, and budgeting
• Experience teaching undergraduate students and/or leading professional development programs, particularly in STEM fields
• Ability to contribute to publications and funding proposals for STEM audiences

Purpose
Position will manage operations and personnel for the TXBSPI, which is a UT hub for rigorous social and behavioral science research focused on solutions to inequality in the pathways to adulthood, including national and state-level experiments assessing the impact of youth-focused interventions. The assistant director will work with the faculty directors (David Yeager, Chandra Muller, and Robert Crosnoe) to run the institute and achieve its goals.
Responsibilities
• Serve as the point person for human resources, finances, and other managerial functions of the TXBSPI, working closely with the staff of the broader Population Research Center in which the TXBSPI is housed, and as the liaison between TXBSPI staff and the TXBSPI faculty directors.
• Support the activities of the faculty directors, including organizing weekly advisory group meetings, facilitating communications, tracking progress and performance goals across research projects and other activities, and providing administrative support as needed.
• Lead the execution of all contracts, subcontracts, new hires, and purchase orders.
• Coordinate communications and activities with advisory groups for regular meetings.
• Manage personnel across a variety of research projects and activities in collaboration with principal investigators and generally maintain records of work activities of personnel, assign or re-assign responsibilities as necessary, and lead regular performance management efforts.
• Assist with the development, implementation, and coordination of research studies, including responding to opportunities for external funding; supporting IRB applications, renewals, amendments and training; providing administrative assistance on study recruitment, retention, and tracking; assisting with the drafting of research materials and management of research documentation; organizing and maintaining a library of publications and other research products and interacting with potential users of these products; providing administrative support for grant applications and progress reports; supervising the cleaning and archiving of datasets; and coordinating communications with sponsors and acting as a liaison between TXBSPI and any subcontractors of partners.
• Make recommendations for strategic planning and resource allocation including but not limited to staff time and technology resources and lead the continual improvement of TxBSPI organizational culture.
Required Qualifications
• The minimum educational criterion is a B.A., with special consideration for advanced degrees in social or behavioral science disciplines.
• Flexibility in adapting to evolving job responsibilities depending on changes in projects, external funding, and personnel.
• Experience with staff oversight, human resources management, performance reviews, budgeting, contracts, the oversight of multiple activities, and general leadership.
• Proficiency in planning, scheduling, and production.
• Strong organizational follow-through, communication skills, professionalism, and work ethic.
• Ability to multi-task and stay focused on the larger picture while addressing daily issues.
