Position Information

Become a key growth contributor for VIAVI Solutions fiber field test product line with a focus on inspection and cleaning of optical interfaces. This role is for a Global Product Line Manager who works with Sales, marketing, R&D and Services to drive sustainable growth of his/her product line. The successful candidate has an ability to work in dynamic cross-functional and customer engaging environments including understanding technology trends, developing product roadmap for the solution, interacting with customers, working with research and development to make product concepts a reality, all while driving successful business models with marketing and sales team.

A key part of this role is being the business unit’s technical interface to the field (sales, partners, customers) for all inspection and cleaning products. You will also help define product capabilities, feature enhancements, services, roadmap and launch planning. The ideal candidate should have a basic understanding of fiber optic telecommunication networks and be willing to learn. In additional to growing your technical knowledge, you will be become skilled at listening to understand customer requirements and translate/apply the value our solutions can bring. You will help defining use cases/operations workflow of the solutions end to end and execute on driving adoption across the ecosystem.

Major responsibilities include:
• Become the go-to person in the business unit for technical requests from the field related to fiber inspection and cleaning
• Learn how to anticipate and assess new market trends and customer requirements, and work with sales to address
• Define product enhancement roadmaps around fiber optic field inspection, data center construction and commissioning, and PON network and service activation
• Develop customer intimacy
• Work with marketing experts to create go-to-market programs and enable sales and channel partners.
• Establish and promote unique value propositions that set our solutions apart in the local market.
• Work closely with R&D, operations, and cross functional team for new product development
• Work across different product lines on cross-portfolio programs to develop customer centric solutions

Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:

Required skills and Qualifications:
• Associates or bachelor’s degree in the field of telecommunications with a preference for fiber optic focused courses
• Willingness to learn – both self-directed and under the guidance of senior product managers.
• Ability to manage ambiguity and make risk-based decisions
• Knowledge of technologies and trends in fiber based broadband networks including FTTH/xPON, 5G fronthaul, Enterprise/Data centers/ICP
• Fluent in English and excellent oral and written communication skills to prepare and deliver professional proposals or presentations to customers at all levels, conferences, and peers.
• Self-motivated, organized with excellent problem-solving ability.
• Create User Stories or use cases based on voice of customer and user experience sessions
• Able to travel 25~30% (domestic and international)

Job Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
• Account Manager will work closely with the regional Account Manager and be responsible for accounts, maintaining customer records and CRM database, and establishing new business.
• Individual contributor, customer-facing, front line sales for custom, sometimes complex optical coatings for Military applications.
• Primarily managing defense accounts, including building initial relationships and being the voice of the customer within VIAVI. Possibly other market segments including automotive or healthcare.
• Prospect to identify and qualify potential customers. Develop leads through referral channels and cultivate new key accounts.
• Manage the pipeline of opportunities from current and prospective customers to ensure that sales goals can be met. This includes qualification of opportunities within the pipeline, proper prioritization of activities, and management of time and commitments to ensure priority opportunities move through the sales cycle.
• Propose customer solutions and close opportunities.
• Input and manage CRM for assigned customers
• Support delivery of accurate sales forecasts and reports and document sales funnel in customer relationship management system
• Maintain awareness of market conditions/trends, competitor products and any other industry knowledge.
• Attend trade shows, sales meetings and make customer visits

Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:

Background Requirements:
• 10 years’ experience in developing and managing OEM accounts

5+ years’ experience in optics or thin film products, in either a technical or sales role
• BS degree in chemistry, physics, engineering (EE, Materials, Chem E) or other relevant technical field. MBA is a plus
• Familiarity with the Government prime contractor procurement process
• Ability to hold a Secret Clearance
• Experience in applications of thin film optical coatings, optical components, semiconductor processing, or optical systems highly desirable.
• Successful past performance in sales/capture/business development in commercial sectors (e.g., developing customer relationships, developing a qualified pipeline, and building industry relationships)
• Demonstrated ability to build relationships with high level technical and business managers at key customers.
• Self-starter, strong interpersonal skills, able to communicate easily and effectively with customers as well as within the organization.
• Track record of managing customer accounts, from initiating contact, to managing relationship during development projects, and to negotiating purchase orders.
• Travel 25-40%
