Position Information

Become a key growth contributor for VIAVI Solutions fiber field test product line with a focus on inspection and cleaning of optical interfaces. This role is for a Global Product Line Manager who works with Sales, marketing, R&D and Services to drive sustainable growth of his/her product line. The successful candidate has an ability to work in dynamic cross-functional and customer engaging environments including understanding technology trends, developing product roadmap for the solution, interacting with customers, working with research and development to make product concepts a reality, all while driving successful business models with marketing and sales team.

A key part of this role is being the business unit’s technical interface to the field (sales, partners, customers) for all inspection and cleaning products. You will also help define product capabilities, feature enhancements, services, roadmap and launch planning. The ideal candidate should have a basic understanding of fiber optic telecommunication networks and be willing to learn. In additional to growing your technical knowledge, you will be become skilled at listening to understand customer requirements and translate/apply the value our solutions can bring. You will help defining use cases/operations workflow of the solutions end to end and execute on driving adoption across the ecosystem.

Major responsibilities include:
• Become the go-to person in the business unit for technical requests from the field related to fiber inspection and cleaning
• Learn how to anticipate and assess new market trends and customer requirements, and work with sales to address
• Define product enhancement roadmaps around fiber optic field inspection, data center construction and commissioning, and PON network and service activation

Work with a world-class team of engineers to develop a high-performance big data reporting platform underpinning Viavi's flagship Network Performance Monitoring and Diagnostics (NPMD) solution, Observer Apex. Apex provides best-in-class technologies that help IT teams dramatically accelerate problem identification and remediation for Enterprise applications. Duties/Responsibilities:
• Develop the next generation of the Apex reporting platform targeting hyperscale, high availability, and cloud native network and application monitoring. Scale of a single deployment may exceed 100 billion records per day, while typical queries must render in just seconds.
• Innovate, design, and implement solutions to highly complex problems to satisfy a broad range of customer needs
• Take interest in learning the subject matter and use cases in order to make smart development decisions
• Take ownership of features and take pride in your work, ensuring code is clean, correct, well tested, and meets the definition of done
• Apply sound engineering principles for highly maintainable and testable software
• Comment and document the "right" amount

Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:

Basic Qualifications:
• MS / BS in Computer Science or related discipline
• Experience with JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS
• Familiarity with Angular (or similar) framework underpinning an Enterprise software product
• Experience automating UI testing
• Version control system experience using Git, Mercurial, or Subversion
• Ability to initiate and drive forward software development in an Agile environment
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills
• A passion for creating, reusing, and maintaining well-structured and architected solutions
• The ability to deliver high-performance, customer-focused features
• Independent drive and desire to dive deep into the codebase to gain an immediately understanding of the product and architecture

Preferred Qualifications:
• Network protocols or familiarity with IP network infrastructure
• Knowledge of JavaScript ecosystem (frameworks, build tools, libraries): React, Ember, Backbone, React, Grunt, D3, Karma, Protractor
• Proficient in one or more secondary languages such as: CoffeeScript, Groovy, Scala, ES6
• Datastore knowledge such as: Redis, Columnar databases, Document stores
