We invite applications from outstanding particle physicists able to take a significant role in our research programme with the LHCb detector at the LHC.

The Warwick EPP Group started in 2004 and has grown to a total of 14 academics (including Royal Society, ERC and STFC Rutherford Fellows) driving a research programme that covers Energy Frontier Physics, Quark Flavour Physics, Neutrino Physics, Dark Matter and R&D towards accelerators and detectors for future experiments. The group includes a large number of PDRAs and graduate students, together with dedicated experts in both hardware and software for particle physics. We also work closely with departmental officers for outreach, engagement, knowledge exchange and commercialisation.

The Warwick LHCb Group, led by Professor Tim Gershon, has several... prominent roles within the collaboration. The group is heavily involved in the LHCb physics programme, and has responsibilities in Monte Carlo event generation and simulation, and in data processing. The group supports the maintenance, operation and upgrades of the VELO silicon vertex subdetectors, and carries out R&D on the TORCH particle identification device with a view to its use in a future LHCb upgrade. The group has diverse interests in the exploitation of LHCb data, searching for physics beyond the Standard Model of particle physics through studies of CP violation, rare decays and the properties and interactions of electroweak gauge bosons. We would particularly welcome applications from candidates who can strengthen and complement our existing activities within LHCb. We also invite applications from exceptional candidates having interests aligned with any of our other areas of particle physics, who already hold an externally-funded research fellowship or similar research funding.

The Department of Physics provides an exciting and highly supportive environment in which academics can develop their careers. At Warwick, Assistant Professor is a tenure-track position leading to appointment as an Associate Professor after successful completion of probation. The University of Warwick maintains a global outlook, has collaborations around the world, and welcomes applicants of all nationalities. We are fully committed to equality of opportunity and encourage application and enquiries from all suitably qualified candidates. All posts can be held full or part-time.

Candidates must submit their application via the online application system, although informal enquiries can be addressed to Professor Tim Gershon (t.j.gershon@warwick.ac.uk) or Professor Gary Barker, Head of EPP Group (G.J.Barker@warwick.ac.uk).

£33,348 - £43,155 per annum

Fixed-term contract until 30 November 2023, 1.0 FTE.

The University of Warwick seeks a suitably qualified mathematical or statistical modeller for a new position in the School of Life Sciences.

The post is part of a large European Commission funded project and will explore the potential introduction and spread of a major quarantine disease of citrus. Increases in global trade and travel have led to a vast increase in invasive plant disease epidemics. These epidemics are a serious and increasing problem in agriculture with important consequences for food supply and security. The postholder will analyse trade and commercial planting data to identify areas at high risk of entry of the disease, known as citrus greening, into the EU. This data will be linked with models to predict areas of onward spread from entry points, which will be used to inform surveillance strategies for member... states.

Applications are invited from candidates with a PhD in applied mathematics, statistics, physics, epidemiology, theoretical ecology or related subjects.

The postholder will benefit from a strong research environment within the School of Life Sciences at Warwick, with world leading expertise in epidemiological modelling and plant sciences.

The post is available to start as soon as possible and will end on 30 November 2023. It will be based at the University of Warwick Wellesbourne campus and hybrid working can be discussed.

Please contact stephen.parnell@warwick.ac.uk for informal enquires.

Full time, fixed term contract for 12 months with a start date of 1 April 2023.

This is an exciting opportunity and a chance to work on a project to build a prototype non-contact ultrasonic EMAT based system with data capture and analysis for determining the internal pressure of a sealed stainless steel vessel by means of resonant acoustic or ultrasonic analysis.

The Department of Physics seeks to appoint a Research Fellow to work as part of a research team that is developing new instrument for industrial trials. The work will involve undertaking fundamental and applied research, usually in close collaboration with industrial partners, and will therefore require good communication and team working skills.

The candidate needs experience in designing and constructing EMAT transducers suitable for generating and detecting acoustic or ultrasonic resonant modes in a stainless steel container. A good understanding of how the... resonant modes are generated and detected and experience of analysing the data from these types of experiments is essential in this one year project. A good understanding of the issues and requirements of performing resonant testing on special nuclear material containers is also essential. Some general competence in electronic circuit use and testing is required, and experience of CAD and 3D printing for prototyping designs is essential. Experience in finite element modelling is required, particularly in Solidworks and using that software to analyse the resonant modes of a stainless steel package.

The work involves direct liaison with academic and industrial partners and the candidate requires some experience of managing a project and reporting to collaborators through both verbal and written means. The post also requires the candidate to perform fundamental research and have a track record of leading the writing of research papers and presentations.

The successful candidate will be focused on designing and constructing a resonant acoustic/ ultrasonic mode system for use on stainless steel packages. This is an important role within a research group, aimed at generating real world impact from the group’s previous work in this area. The post holder will also develop new skills, working with researchers from a range of application fields. There will be the opportunity to publish research papers, attend research conferences and supervise research students.

You will be an excellent communicator capable of working effectively both independently and as part of a research team. You will possess excellent planning and time management skills to ensure your research objectives are achieved effectively.

If you have not yet been awarded your PhD but are near submission or have recently submitted your PhD, any offers of employment will be made as Research Assistant on level 5 of the University grade structure. Upon successful award of your PhD and evidence of this fact, you will be promoted to Research Fellow on the first point of the level 6 of the University grade structure.
