Under the general supervision of the Director of Internal Controls, UW MEDICINE CONTROL the SENIOR GRANTS & PROJECTS ANALYST serves as one of the content experts and resources for grant and contract proposals, pre-award management and compliance. This position is also responsible for coordinating and providing direct support for grants and contracts at UW Medicine.

The SENIOR GRANTS & PROJECTS ANALYST serves as an internal control resource for hospitals and health system leadership. The position will work closely with department managers as well as finance leadership and staff to prioritize, coordinate, and implement improvements. It is also responsible for assisting in the management of the UW Medicine internal controls policy program for UW Medicine. UW Medicine includes Harborview Medical Center, UW Medical Center - Montlake, UW Medical Center - Northwest, Valley Medical Center, UW Neighborhood Clinics, UW Physicians, UW School of Medicine, and Airlift Northwest.

This position is responsible for assisting with creating standardized processes for the hospitals, and providing centralized support for grants, contracts, and student affiliation agreements, including budget development, application and ongoing compliance and pre-award monitoring

The SENIOR GRANTS & PROJECTS ANALYST will also research federal, state, county and other policy and regulator guidance and serve as one of the content experts and resources for grant and contract proposals, pre-award management and compliance. Test and monitor control risk areas and areas related to grants and contracts across the health system, respond to department inquiries for information, and perform training in areas related to grant policies and regulations and internal controls.

Required
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business or related field
• 4-5 years’ experience
• Grant and contract management experience and solid understanding of complex grant regulations.
• Internal audit or internal controls experience in a large hospital or healthcare system. Academic Medical Center or large integrated health system experience is preferred.
• Strong understanding of internal control guidelines.
• In-depth knowledge of hospital business operations, financial analysis and current in new regulations and trends.
• Demonstrated ability and/or experience handling high volume and diverse tasks, under deadlines, with consistently excellent accuracy and attention to detail.

This position needs to be attentive to deadlines imposed by auditors and hospital leadership. The ability to both effectively prioritize as well as respond quickly to shifts in priorities is critical. This position requires strong knowledge of federal, state and other grant regulatory requirements, as well as state, county, UW and hospital internal control policies and regulations. The UW MEDICINE FINANCE AND BUDGET has an exciting opportunity for a COST ACCOUNTING ANALYST

The COST ACCOUNTING ANALYST is responsible for creating and maintaining UW Medicine’s internal cost system, creating, and maintaining metrics, statistics, and other tabular data key to the costing process for Harborview Medical Center and University of Washington Medical Center. This position will reconcile and maintain educational and knowledge-based material for other analysts using the encounter-based costing resulting from the costing step down process.

This position collaborates frequently with IT to identify break/fit issues within the data feeds, explores software capabilities and problem solving. The Cost Accounting Analyst will also use the subsequent cost detail in ad hoc health care analyses ranging from utilization management, organizational improvement, performance improvement and quality improvement. This position works in conjunction with Medical Centers leadership and management staff in pursuit of costing statistics and metrics needed to appropriately cost unique services.

This position works in collaboration with all other UW Medicine Finance staff in the pursuit of healthcare analytics. Frequently works independently with short turnaround times, incomplete information and complex analytics that must support effective financial decision-making. Due to our complex ITS infrastructure at UW Medicine, analyst must frequently build sophisticated SQL queries and/or work with complex databases and challenging data structures that require thoughtful data analysis to gather and evaluate results. This position supports many entities within UW Medicine – due to legacy legal structures -- all of these have different data sources, G/L constructs and variations and yet this position must effectively present costing products that crosses these entities.

DUTIES
• Perform monthly and/or quarterly cost updates on the encounter system and audit/reconcile results at each interim step to ensure integrity of results.
• Perform quarterly reconciliations of encounter data (costs and revenues) to the general ledger and audited financial statements.
• Provide monthly and quarterly costing communications to analysts.
• Maintain existing and engage in periodic development of new or improved cost metrics and standards for Harborview Medical Center and Medical Center and University of Washington Medical Center used in allocation of general ledger expense to the encounter system.
• Recommends, improves or creates new costing processes to support management, department or clinical database structures.
• Researches and recommends procedure/department level costing improvements through literature or best practice.
• Maintains existing and establishes standard documentation of costing methodologies and processes. a. Assists with internal analysts’ questions and customer support regarding cost data fields in existing systems and applications as needed (costing process, data and fields, primary role; all other fields, secondary role).
• Maintains and, if necessary, establishes all statistics, data tables and standards that are used within the costing process.
• Reach out and develop with UWMC & HMC leadership and management key costing metrics used within costing at the procedure level to assure procedures and services are costed with the most up to date understanding within operations. Provide module maintenance and support for McKesson’s Performance Manager (PM) with ITS and the Finance system coordinator.
• Provide periodic workshops, one-on-one training for analysts and external consumers of cost.
• Researches and reports errors found in database fields and/or coordinates support calls with Information Technology.
• Participates in departmental team and staff meetings.
• Participates in improving Job Description, task lists and skills development for ongoing performance enhancement.

Analytics include:
• Financial Analyses: cost analyses, payback analyses, proforma or business plan support analyses, contribution margin or other financial analyses as directed.
• Ad hoc analyses using encounter data on key populations for pricing, revenue, costing and/or reimbursement.
• Discovery Analyses on new processes or business direction.
• Participates in developing departmental services through team building, research or other activities to improve intradepartmental relationships with managers or committees that are seeking Finance, Decision Support assistance.
• Lead responsibilities include understanding the relationship between the encounter data, financial data and statistical data to ensure integrity of results.

Required

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field

3 years of progressively responsible experience in accounting with a preference in cost accounting.

Ability to prepare complex financial analysis and interpretations with high degree of accuracy. Proven analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.

DESIRED

Master’s degree in Accounting, Health Care Administration, Business Administration, or Finance preferred but not required. Prior experience with healthcare encounter costing, Lean and process improvement experienced desired but not required.

This role will be instrumental in promoting the visibility and impact of IHMEs groundbreaking research and sharing this information nationally and internationally through key media and outreach channels. The focus of this position is formulating and spearheading delivery of IHMEs work into the hands of decision-makers around the world through a comprehensive and strategic communications strategy that includes communications, marketing. and public relations. This will entail translating IHMEs research and data and creating storytelling and campaign initiatives that make IHMEs work accessible to, and enhance its visibility and uptake by, key stakeholders including the media, IHMEs collaborator networks, academic partners, policymakers, and the general public, among others. This position leads a large team of more than 25 professionals responsible for data visualizations, marketing, media campaigns, digital experience, and graphic design/editing. The Director will provide leadership over IHMEs external website, social media, and other collateral and will ensure that IHMEs online data visualizations and insights are designed in a way that is cutting-edge, accessible, engaging, and audience-appropriate.

The position requires someone who is intellectually sharp and curious and can act as an effective ambassador for IHME across multiple mediums and cultural and professional audiences. Strategic Leadership, Management, and Communications

Oversee all strategic media outreach efforts and campaigns to encourage the use of IHMEs outputs to inform and influence decision-making efforts. Strategically frame and promote IHMEs work through a variety of mechanisms, including print, interactive visualizations, the web, and social media.

Create strategic campaign plans that help IHME reach multiple targeted audiences and apply innovative approaches to translating data into compelling visuals, stories, and insights.

Broaden the use of online data visualization tools and technology to improve development and expand access to more strategic audiences globally as well as provide data visualization services internally.

Using data-driven marketing strategies, position IHME as a leader in interactive visualization tools and data storytelling. Ensure that IHMEs online presence is cutting-edge and accessible, through data visualizations and through the website.

Ensure high visibility and effective dissemination of key IHME products.

Develop brand marketing efforts, including cultivating a unique brand voice and content strategy that establishes IHME as a thought leader and partner.

Support IHMEs philanthropic campaigns through providing strategic input and materials to facilitate donor relations, as driven by the philanthropy team.

Participate as a member of the Executive Team and Senior Management Team of IHME to set organizational policies, ensure organizational health, and sustain a vibrant, ambitious, and entrepreneurial community.

Guide the Directors Office in strategically positioning IHME as an influencer and resource within this field.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

A bachelors degree and minimum 10 years of experience in communications, marketing, public affairs, and/or public relations in health policy, public policy, medical research, or a related field, including experience either working with or collaborating with international organizations. Experience supervising a large team of diverse professionals.

Reporting to the Associate Director, University Budget Operations, the Business Systems Analyst, Planning Systems Stabilization will be responsible for supporting the stabilization of the University's deployment of Workday Adaptive Planning, with a focus on business analysis, process review and documentation, enhancement planning and technical guide development.

This is a full time project appointment role, anticipated to last 12 months.

This position requires flexibility and in depth functional knowledge necessary to support the stabilization of University planning systems and documentation of business processes, technical guides and business analysis of system elements.

As the University transitions to Workday Finance and Adaptive Planning, this position needs to be an effective communicator and change manager in support of University business units and leadership.

A keen understanding of university functions and knowledge of data generated and used is key to being successful in this position as planning processes and systems intersect and overlap at multiple levels and across units and functions.

Organizational and collaborative skills are needed to make the best use of time and resources to address issues and opportunities effectively and respond in a timely manner to requests from the university’s senior leadership.

• Supports the Office of Planning and Budgeting in its role as the business functional administrator of Adaptive Planning responsible for system and process stability.
• Documents business processes associated with the use of Adaptive Planning from the perspective of a Model Administrator (Academy & Medicine).
• Documents business processes associated with the use of Adaptive Planning from the perspective of an end user (Academy).

• Liaises with UWIT as the technical owner of the Adaptive Planning deployment for purposes of supporting the documentation of business processes associated with the technical maintenance of the Adaptive Planning tool.

The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center and the University of Washington School of Medicine invite nominations and applications for the inaugural Senior Vice President & Division Director, Hematology and Oncology at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center and Head, of the Division of Hematology and Oncology at the University of Washington (UW) Department of Medicine.

This position will be dual appointed with a primary appointment at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center and dual appointment in the Department of Medicine, University of Washington. The position will have a dual reporting line to the President and Director of Fred Hutch, Dr. Tom Lynch, as well as to the Chair of Medicine, University of Washington, Dr. Barbara Jung.

In collaboration with senior leadership of Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center and UW Department of Medicine, the incumbent will provide executive and strategic leadership, with a strong vision, to build a new combined Division of Hematology and Oncology at UW/Fred Hutch and accordingly develop programs that connect the research, teaching and academic enterprise of Fred Hutch and University of Washington.

The incumbent will serve as an academic, clinical, and educational leader, charged with developing and implementing strategies for faculty recruitment, emphasizing emerging directions in hematologic and solid tumor research, while also fostering the broader research portfolio of the cancer center, as well as overseeing hematology/oncology fellowship training and clinical care delivery in hematology and oncology. Responsibilities will also include ensuring oversight of and participation in divisional strategic planning, faculty oversight, appointment and promotion, and mentoring/supervising trainees while attending on clinical service. The incumbent will exhibit sound management of financial resources and will partner with the Chief Medical Officer of FHCC to meet operation and fiscal KPIs of their clinical domains.

Appointment to the full-time faculty at the UW would be at the rank of associate or full professor (with tenure). Salary and academic appointment at UW will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and academic rank. Associate and full professors hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service.

Appointment at Fred Hutch would be at the rank of associate for full professor. Fred Hutch does not employ a tenure track, instead opting for an ongoing review system where faculty are evaluated every five years for consideration of promotion from assistant, to associate, to full professor. The contributions and productivity of Full Professor continue to be evaluated on this timescale.

Qualifications

Candidates must possess demonstrated excellence and proven leadership in clinical oncology research and enjoy national recognition for achievements in hematology and/or oncology. Candidates should have an MD (or foreign equivalent) and board certification in hematology or oncology (or foreign equivalent). In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent, as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
