POSITION: Editorial Associate

STATUS: Exempt

REPORTS TO: Associate Executive Director for Communications and Publications

OVERVIEW

The Editorial Associate is responsible for providing editorial reviews of and copy writing for print and digital publications in support of the Association’s overall goals and objectives of the Strategic Plan. The Editorial Associate reports to the Associate Executive Director, Communications and Publications.

QUALIFICATIONS

3-7 years of relevant professional experience.
College degree in communications, journalism, marketing, English or equivalent.
Excellent writing, copyediting and proofreading skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office software and knowledge of AP style.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Ability to work independently but collaboratively.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Edit, fact-check and proofread print and digital copy for magazine, emails, website, journal, event programs, marketing collateral and social media for Association’s publications, campaigns, events and initiatives.
Write copy for magazine, emails, journal news, website and other communication channels – ensuring materials match the AAOMS style and branding guidelines.
Perform other similar or related duties as requested or assigned by the Editorial Associate Executive Director, Communications and Publications

Overview

This position supports the Video & Motion Graphics, Magazine, and Social Media teams. Responsibilities would include creating illustrations/assets (character design, 2d elements, etc.) for use in motion graphics, creating custom and template-ready designs for our print/online magazine and iterating those designs for social media. You will have the opportunity to create unique and engaging content intended for a global audience in multiple languages.

The role is also responsible for supporting the Art Director of Rotary magazine with the layout and design of the monthly publication. The person will be expected to manage the front and back of the book department layouts at the direction of the magazine Art Director, assigning and managing art as necessary, as well as partnering with the photo editor and others to meet monthly magazine deadlines.

You’re a tinkerer who loves to learn new techniques and technologies. As a creative collaborator and maker, you can go from brainstorming concepts to final execution, but are equally comfortable as part of a creative team: building elements for others to manipulate. Your contribution helps to grow the engagement of Rotary’s global membership and our external audiences.

You Will Have:
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, illustration, digital design or equivalent experience
• 3+ years experience as a creative in digital content/social media
• A creative mind to develop multimedia content that aligns with and bolsters the Rotary International voice
• Software requirements: Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator, InCopy, InDesign, After Effects
• Knowledge of photography usage rights, research methods, and principles
• Knowledge of the print production process
• Social media stickers, filters, GIF creation experience/Spark AR a plus
• Multilingual a plus

• Juggling multiple projects with various deliverables and timelines.
• Pushing the envelope and finding new ways to do things.
