The incumbent also manages planning studies funded... by the Federal and State government, and participates in the metropolitan planning process through the New York Metropolitan Transportation Council (NYMTC), and monitors the administration of grants and funds received through the associated programs. Additionally, the incumbent directs the Planning staff in performing research on transportation problems in Westchester County and its communities, and prepares reports for use by officials, governmental agencies, and the general public.
The Director of Planning is expected to help establish a vision for the mobility needs of all of Westchester County’s residents, employers, and visitors; a vison that is sustainable and equitable. Supervision is exercised over professional and clerical staff, and consultants, as needed. Does related work as required.
REQUIREMENTS: Either (a) a Bachelor's Degree in Urban or Transportation Planning, Transportation Engineering, Civil Engineering, Public Administration, or related field and 5 years of experience where the primary function of the position was in transportation planning, 3 years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or a Master’s in Public Administration and 3 years supervisory experience; or (b) a Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of experience as described in (a), 3 years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
SUBSTITUTION: Satisfactory completion of 30 credits towards a Master’s Degree in Urban or Transportation Planning, Transportation Engineering, Civil Engineering, Public Administration, or related field may be substituted for one year of the experience as defined in (a). Candidates must possess the supervisory experience.
