What will I need?

Essential Job Functions
An Exception Handling Coordinator at WestPac Labs will:
• Utilize technical skills and abilities to effectively direct the handling and processing of specimens.
• Identify problems and resolve issues internally when possible. Adhere to laboratory procedures when resolving problems.
• Be familiar with protocol for ordering, crediting, noting-out, and canceling tests using a Laboratory Information System (LIS).
• Provide excellent customer service when communicating with clients and patients.
• Serve as a communication median between WestPac Labs and customer service or Patient Service Centers (PSCs).
• Be customer service oriented and possess strong interpersonal skills and maintain a positive and friendly attitude when interacting with patients, clients, and other departments.
• Ensure the resolution of testing or faxing issues between the laboratory and clients/patients.
• Be familiar with current work lists, test requisitioning, labeling, specimen storage and retrieval, and specimen status tracking.
• Provide patients and clients specimen requirements, reference ranges, and specimen stability information.
• Document communication with patients and clients and follow-up when necessary.
• Ensure confidentiality of protected health information and comply with Company Policy and Federal, State, CAP, HIPAA and CLIA regulations.
• Understand and follow all safety, infection control, and OSHA Blood Borne Pathogen guidelines.
• Correctly identify which tubes, containers, transport media, and storage temperature are appropriate for each test type.
• Ensure quality patient care by communicating effectively with laboratory staff and clients to provide updates on specimen handling issues.
• Maintain communication with laboratory staff and its clients to ensure quality patient care.
• Be responsible for accurate accessioning and logging in of patient specimens and challenges.
• Properly input patient demographics, correct codes (test, diagnoses) and provider into LIS.
• Properly utilize Personal Protective Equipment and follows guidelines for sharps safety.
• Participate in and support all Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement endeavors for the laboratory, as necessary.
• In addition to typical work schedule, may be scheduled to work weekends, work split shifts, overtime, holidays, and attend mandatory company meetings, as necessary.
• Be required to perform other job duties, as necessary.
