POSITION SUMMARY:

The Assistant Director advises students; and assists in maintaining knowledge of all programs and certification requirements, manages the recruiting process for prospective students, provides administrative support for the TCP programs and coordinates projects.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Advising | 30%

• Serve as prospective and current advisor for TCP

• Advise students regarding required coursework

• Track completion of coursework throughout the year

• Provide professional and academic coaching to candidates

• Complete transcript evaluations for prospective students

• Remain current on Washington State requirements for P-12 endorsements offered by the School of Education

• Work collaboratively to ensure all licensure requirements for TCP programs are met by the end of the program

• Support candidate in course waivers and substitutions, as well as financial aid processes

• Maintain necessary forms and documentation between TCP and school site personnel

• Review all files for TCP certification and degrees

Recruiting and Marketing | 25%

• Recruit prospective students and assist in marketing programs

• Coordinate with recruiting events on and off campus

• As appropriate, attend state and regional conferences related to admissions, recruitment, and support of adult students

• Coordinate with the Whitworth University Office of Communications, the dean of the School of Education, the dean of the School of Continuing Studies, and program directors, updating university catalog as it relates to supported programs, ensuring accuracy of published information

• Work with enrollment management office and program directors / coordinators on production of marketing campaign, including program recruiting materials, providing current and relevant market information

• Review program marketing materials for accuracy and currency

Enrollment | 20%

• Manage enrollment for supported programs

• Meet with prospective candidates to discuss application & admission to TCP and supported programs

• Attend regular admissions staff meetings

• Track application status, using SLATE protocol

• Follow up with prospects to gauge continued interest

• Review program admission applications, making recommendations to program directors and coordinators

• Ensure candidates meet program admission and institution qualifications

• Participate in program admission interviews

• Collaborate with the Financial Aid office to ensure accurate credits for FA awards

• Match courses taken with teaching endorsement requirements

• If necessary, communicate with other institutions to clarify course content

• Recommend courses to take and where to take them for endorsement deficiencies

Administrative Responsibilities and Coordination of Projects | 15%

• Work with enrollment management team to update web sites and Pirate Port with current, accurate information, promotional messages, and coordinate new content program projects

• Review and facilitate updating program webpages

• Participate in TCP meetings

• Participate on appropriate program and Whitworth committees

• Collaborate with TCP personnel on TCP policy revisions

• Create cohort course schedule and sequence

• Provide faculty support (e.g., Blackboard, textbook adoption, and scheduling of courses)

• Participate in School of Continuing Studies meetings

• Participate in strategic planning for TCP and continuing studies

Other | 10%

• Coordinate event planning for programs

• Participate in program event planning, including orientations, transfer events, cohort celebrations, and community college advisory events for TCP and The School of Continuing Studies

• Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of educational assessments and processes

• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to analyze student assessment scores, offering data-driven solutions

• Strong problem-solving skills

• Clear organizational skills

• Effective written and verbal communication skills to support candidates, and communicate with constituencies

• Excellent consultation and customer service skills

• Strong team player, with the ability to take initiative and operate independently.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university in a relevant field (e.g., Education, Psychology, Educational Administration, Counseling, etc.) or relevant professional experience

• Two (2) years of experience working in higher education, adult education program advising, or a related field

• Successful experience in marketing or recruitment

• Experience using technology to aid in marketing and recruitment

• Experience in support roles, working with clientele, coaching them toward desired outcomes (e.g., career counseling, coaching, managing, etc.).

• A commitment to fostering culture that embraces diversity and inclusion

• Ability to collaborate with a diverse constituency of students, staff, faculty and stakeholders

• Experience with state licensure for teachers and counselors, including state required assessments and field experiences

• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders, developing consensus toward common goals or policies

The Department of Music, housed in the recently renovated and
expanded Cowles Music Center, offers both the Bachelor of Arts in
Music and Bachelor of Arts in Music Education Degrees. The
department has nine full-time faculty, two full-time lecturers, and
over thirty part-time instructors, with approximately 60 music
majors as well as many non-majors in elective courses, lessons, and
ensembles. The music programs are fully accredited by the National
Association of Schools of Music. The music department serves the
Spokane community by performing nearly 100 recitals and concerts
each year on campus, in schools and churches, and at the historic
Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox.

STARTING DATE: July 1, 2023

PRIMARY TEACHING OPPORTUNITIES:

Teach piano lessons, piano pedagogy, oversee keyboard studies area;
oversee piano proficiency program; teach in an additional area
depending on expertise and departmental needs (music technology or
composition preferred); establish and maintain positive
relationships with regional music educators.

OTHER OPPORTUNITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Possibility of developing new courses that contribute to the
university's innovative, interdisciplinary Shared Curriculum.
Additional responsibilities include participation in departmental
activities and governance, professional and research activities,
attending state, regional and national professional association
meetings; attending faculty assemblies, development days, and
retreat, serving on committees, and advising.
