Founded in 1915, the Williams... Outing Club (WOC) is the largest student organization at Williams. The Williams Outing Club has a deep history of offering students the opportunity to explore and connect with the nature that surrounds the campus and beyond. WOC offers a wide variety of all campus events, trips, and activities throughout the year, including regular day hikes, backpacking, canoeing, whitewater kayaking, downhill/cross country skiing, trail maintenance indoor/outdoor climbing, and a variety of outdoor skill PE classes–as well as several overnight trips and longer expeditions during college breaks outside of New England.

Responsibilities include overseeing a student board, supporting and training student instructors, supporting an inclusive club, planning of trips and events, overseeing the First Year Orientation Program (WOOLF), Mountain Day, and Winter Carnival, teaching Physical Education classes, oversight of WOC vehicles, working closely with an assistant director who manages the WOC equipment room and helps in other areas with the club, and other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

The Director is expected to work collaboratively with the WOC student board and other stakeholders to continue to increase accessibility and inclusion of a diverse student body in WOC programming. The Director will ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards, including safety risk management and accessibility, remaining current with industry standards and best practices.

The new director will be trained and mentored on the job by the current director, who will remain active as a full-time senior associate of the club during the 2023-24 academic year. This period of transition is meant to ensure continuity and orientation to the full calendar of Outing Club events and activities, as described below. Starting in year two, the new director will then take on sole responsibility for the job.

The department invites applications from candidates with a Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree in related field preferred. Previous college outing club experience including skills in wilderness leadership development, possessing at least a Wilderness First Responder certification or greater, familiarity with a wide range of outdoor skills preferred.

A Day in the Life

In this role, you will have the opportunity to further mature our reporting practices so that ESG data and information is increasingly reliable, timely, and useful. By continuing to bolster our data accuracy and completeness, Williams will gain a better understanding of potential risks and opportunities in our ESG and corporate strategy. More timely information allows us to be forward-thinking and adaptable to changing business conditions, expectations, and opportunities with both internal and external partners. A primary focus of this position be developing and facilitating a roadmap for strong governance around ESG data that is being reported with consideration of proposed SEC reporting requirements. This role will also engage proactively and with partners throughout the company to support decision making and continuous improvement of reporting and performance of key ESG metrics.

Collaboration and communication is key to success in this role! Partnering with Investor Relations, Environmental, Safety & Operational Discipline, HR, Commercial, Legal, Accounting, and Risk will be essential for your success.

Other day-to-day work may include:
• Providing input to Investor Relations or the Corporate Secretary on ESG practices and data
• Analyzing and communicating ESG reporting frameworks – regulatory and voluntary
• Identifying and assessing risks related to reporting
• Developing and testing auditable controls in partnership with Accounting and Internal Audit
• Proactively engaging with internal collaborators on ESG practices, performance, recordkeeping, and reporting
• Developing one source for ESG reporting (similar to a general ledger for financial reporting)
• Coordinating the completion of third-party ESG surveys
• Representing Williams at conferences and working groups

Responsibilities/Expectations:
• Maintains subject matter knowledge of ESG topics, reporting frameworks, legislation, policymaking activities, and trends
• Collaborates with business partners and assists in the development of disclosure strategy and operationalization activities
• Builds relationships with internal ESG topic leaders and impacted business partners to identify ESG and sustainability opportunities

Education/Years of Experience:
• Required: Bachelor's degree and a minimum of ten (10) years of experience directly related to ESG, EHS, policymaking, audit, or internal controls design/evaluation and experience in ESG reporting and policy development, project management, or investor relations
