The Sports Director will be expected to not only turn content for the weekday newscasts, but also plan coverage for big events and cover weekend sportscasts when necessary. Social media and digital content creation is a significant part of this role.
Duties/Responsibilities include (but not limited to):
• Plans sports coverage for daily stories and big events, including coordination of Sports Dept. staff of 2 anchors/1 reporter.
• Prepare and anchor 3 sports segments per weekday (5p/10p/11p)
• Delivers scripted and ad lib material with professionalism, personality, and purpose
• Coordinates with news managers and producers to develop memorable stories and comprehensive coverage of all sporting events
• Crafts stories that go beyond surface details; accentuate unique enterprise angles and gain exclusive access to players and leaders in the sports world
• Can juggle multiple stories and projects at once, demonstrates exceptional time-management skills by meeting all deadlines
• Unwavering journalistic integrity and ethical standards
• Write stories for station website and post sports stories to station’s digital platforms.
