About the Role

The Data Engineering team at Zip is a people first team of engineers who are passionate about solving real, complex, data related problems. We are open to new ideas, encourage challenging one another to think differently, and promote a culture of high-performance.
As a Senior Data Engineer at Zip, you'll have the opportunity to build solutions across a broad range of big-data and distributed compute technologies that enable key processes for our Risk, Analytics, Product, Finance, and Operations teams. At Zip, it's not just about "What" you deliver, but "How" you deliver it. As a Senior Data Engineer, you'll need exceptional communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate up, down, and across the organization.
About You
• You write efficient code (Scala, Python, Java) and are comfortable learning new technologies to support our evolving data platform.
• You have deep experience with analytical data warehouses like Snowflake, Redshift or similar.
• You are a master at SQL, building efficient data structures, and engineering and modelling best practices.
• You are familiar with implementing and optimizing big data technologies like Spark to support massive data scale.
• You've implemented enterprise data platforms in a cloud environment (We're an Azure shop, but AWS and GCP are acceptable as well).
• You understand the value of documented systems and have experience writing automated tests to ensure the stability and quality of our data platform.
• You are able to help make sense of all the above for junior engineers.
• You are a data superhero and ensure that our data is accurate, consistent, and complete.
• You collaborate with other data superheroes, analysts, and scientists to solve complex data-related issues.
• You are an advocate for all things data and have a learning mindset that keeps you on top of the latest data technology trends. You recognize that "we're never done!"
• You understand and embody the Zip culture and values: Customer First, Own It, Stronger Together and Change the Game

• Understand our data landscape and help to identify opportunities for what's next.
• Build capabilities that enable a self-service, configuration driven data platform solution that enables faster Time-to-Insights (one of our OKRs).
• Advocate and enable earlier access to data safely through advanced modelling, access patterns, and data governance.
• Enable near real-time insights through streaming solutions to enable platform activities like fraud detection and risk, customer/app experience, and more.
• Understand and contribute to integrations with external vendors to support key business initiatives like affiliate marketing, financial reporting, and loan funding.
